I was one of the backers for that kickstarter and pledged to receive a digital version of the book. Not sure if they've got around to that yet but hopefully they do get to it and I'll receive it from them whenever possible.

I suppose if someone without an account tries to click the follow link and doesn't have an account, it will prompt them to sign up. Only downside I see is if someone doesn't make an account, then they wont see your user-page. To link to user-page or to link to follow, that is the question.

Either way I like this feature WEEEEEE

it would be good if the follow feature addressed the value of following someone on Newgrounds for users that are not signed in. For now it just shows a login page which will put off most potential users (why should they register to a site they know nothing about?) it would be great if it explained what Newgrounds is, maybe if the user they're trying to follow has popular content it shows that too and some sort of justification of why someone should register for a Newgrounds account just to follow this one person.

Follow me on Facebook!
Follow me on Newgrounds!

You can see the issue; Twitter and Facebook both present my content and why you should follow me, but Newgrounds doesn't. Personally I would get rid of the individual page and promote people linking to their userpage that has a big banner explaining about following, same with portal submissions.

The most valuable part of a Newgrounds user is their content, so that should be the tool used to acquire followers... not a link that has to be shared elsewhere.

I guess maybe you have this as a basic release and you have all this prepared for release in the future but I figure if I don't say it and it never happens I will be sad.

The follow feature should simply ask for an email or some sort of way to contact people for new content if they don't have an NG account.

It just seems like sending them to register might deter them away.
Registration, regardless of the website, is a process that no one enjoys doing.

If you provided both options I'm sure it would be more compelling.

Personally I'd prefer it if the follow link took you to a person's userpage with the prompt asking if you'd like to follow a person would be at the top of their page (like a banner) with info on the benefits of following someone. It'd make way more sense to do it that way rather than being taken to a small page ONLY if you're logged in. I like the idea of being able to see the content even when you're logged out, as citricsquid said.

I'm sure you can use the NG api to just redirect to your page when the user isn't logged on.

(I tried it, but I'm awful at codin' so it doesn't quite work right.) You get the idea though.

I hope Connor Ullman is ALWAYS used as the example for following people, and becomes the most followed user on the site.

I'm thinking of making a video about following and fanning people on Newgrounds to actually get the word out to people.

I've already got mine from the Kickstarter fund, so that's something else that I need to read.

This fans ranking page that hadn't been updating since the redesign launch has been fixed so you can see who the most popular artists are. I'd like to have daily, weekly and monthly stats as well, one more thing for the wish-list.

What, you're only the 14th most popular user on your own website. Knowing you, though, you really don't care and just want people to keep visiting Newgrounds. Good on you.
