It appears that a Hurricane is afoot!

I've lived on the gulf coast all my life. I was here when Katrina hit, sitting here in this very room, a little bit pissed off that my power wasn't on.
My home sustained minimal damaged.

But that was the past, this is the present!

What are you guys' predictions?
Is it going to hit?
What category is it going to hit at!

From what I hear, it's heading straight for good 'ol Mississippi. (The state in which I live.)

Keep in mind, this would be the first "Big one" to hit Mississippi since Katrina.

In any case, for those of you interested, when it's getting close/hitting, I'll provide you with some pictures of this beautiful storm!

Hope all is well on you guys' front! I've got all my hatches battened down, and I'm ready for shit to hit the fan!

I know it may seem rather selfish of me, but I'm actually kind of looking forward to it, not for the terror it causes, but for the fact that I love storms. I live in Illinois, so I'm not sure if it will bother me all that badly.

Safe and sound in Connecticut. I'll mail down a can of chili for the relief fund.

"Storm Isaac moves near Puerto Rico, with Haiti in its path"

Has anyone else noticed that lately it seems Haiti just keeps getting fucked up the ass with disasters

Indeed! I also enjoy them. If you've never sat through a hurricane, I assure you, it's exciting!

It is greatly appreciated, trust me! We'll need it.

i lived in mississippi from 4 to 11 years old, experiencing the string of hurricanes from Danny to George. from 14 to 19 i lived in florida, so i got to experience Jean, Ivan, Francis, and Charley in 2004. I've grown up with hurricanes all my life. sometimes on some of them i would go outside with a skateboard and mess around in the storms, if they weren't god awful insane anyway. idk, as an adult the only thing i really worry about is the damage it might cause to an apartment or house i own at the time, but a big chunk of me loves all the lights out, the windows boarded, the furniture stocked up in the middle of the house, making a fort out of the couches. i remember how it sounded too, the generator whirring in the laundry room, rain, wind, and palm trees beating the sides of the house. fun times.
now that i'm in arkansas, i'm actually lookingforwardto this next hurricane; hopefully it's path stays northern and it'll bring a lot of heavy weather.

Earthquakes are no fun sir! We've had one down here in 15 years. We thought it was a bomb.

Like I said, I'm totally ready for shit to hit the fan! But take note, if I don't post after the storm, you know what happened.

You get used to them when you live where they often occur. The only thing you can't get used to is the surprise. You never quite know when they are going to happen.

category 1 hurricane, at most. the relatively fast moving speed and the fact that it might make landfall near the gulf of mexico prevents it from intensifying further.

right now, it is still a tropical storm. wind shears are moderate and sea temperature is fine. should be able to maintain intensity.

Indeed! All good facts.

The only difference, I'd say, is that the gulf of Mexico should intensify it.
From my understanding, that's what happened with Katrina, and it has been hot this year.

Only time will tell!

With Katrina it was intensified by a rare occurence where the water gets warmer than usual. i forgot what it's called but basically it just kept magnifying in strength without stopping.

Are you still alive OP?

Update here:

It's day one. It's rained quite a bit, but the worst of it is suppose to come tomorrow.

I work as a roadside assistant, so today when I was driving around looking for work, I got to see some of the destruction. Many trees down. Huge puddles, (which my work car was unable to get through).

It's a good day to be emergency personnel!

I'll keep you guys posted!

This is a water event, not a wind event. Just stay clear from flooded areas and you will be fine.

T number has dropped to 3.0 after its final landfall.

as the tropical cyclone moves further inland, they might consider downgrading the hurricane to a severe tropical storm shortly.

at the meanwhile, most areas near the tropical cyclone are currently experiencing strong to gale force winds.

Yup, pretty much.

Power went out for a bit, but this really hasn't been bad.
No thunder or lightning. No tornados. No hurricane-force winds ripping off my roof.

What gives?
