I'm using Microsoft paint to make some sprites for a game I am making. Is there any other program I can use that is free or Open Source to make sprites and backgrounds? Plus is there a Standard size for sprites and Game Pixel size?

- If guns don't kill people, people do. Does that mean toasters don't toast, toast. Toast toast toast?

You could use Graphics gale. The free one doesn't allow you to save .gif files but it's good for static sprites.
