Food/Cooking blog 2012-08-17 13:23:56 Reply

So I was thinking about starting a food/cooking blog. For anyone who knows me, one of my favorite things is sharing bits of myself (insert dick joke here) with other people. I've done it here on NG through my flash submissions, podcatsts, etc etc, but I've never really been able to share my passion for food and cooking with a global audience.

I am currently staring at a wordpress form and drawing a complete blank as to what to call this goddamn blog, and what to even write about for that matter, so maybe you fags can help me out.

I love to cook and entertain (parties, bbq's etc), and I'm pretty good at it. I also try to make my food have actual nutrition without sacrificing any flavor (a great skill for people with kids), but without it being preachy 'health food'.

The point of view I want to work on is the fact that I am not a trained chef. I don't own a fancy kitchen, or a lot fancy tools. I don't buy a ton of expensive ingredients (I grow my own herbs and shit when I can). Its all stuff anyone in the real world can do if they know how.

This is probably going to be one of the most sincere things I have ever done too, so I guess you'll all see my lighter side. Try not to fall in love.

Here's a few blog titles I thought of, but I'm not sold on any of them yet.

Ginger Please
I am a home cook and so can you
Real World Food
Stand the Heat

I'm looking for a title that really captures my point of view.

I'm also looking to see what normal everyday people want to learn how to do in the kitchen. I'm not really interested in posting recipes (although there will be plenty). I'm more interested in teaching people techniques and how to mix flavors and shit so you can not only cook without recipes, you can do it in an average home kitchen.

Something I have been doing lately is the 2throw things in the cupboard together in a pan" style cooking, so would be good to see ways to make combined food in a sauce type stuff like that better, though tbh it is very good as it is, it might not look the best but very tasty.

I'm currently liking the simplistic: "I cook at home"

But it lacks ginger puns.

Then I guess "My Ginger Nuts" wouldn't work.

A Ginger's Guide to Cooking.
It's cool that you can cook with your own herbs, I have tried before, but to no avail.
I do enjoy cooking for my family as well, and can make do with almost nothing sometimes.

Wasabi Ginger.

That way, it's a subtle pun on your sexual prowess with men while being married and having a family.

Pass the Ginger is a good one too, but I'm sold on 'I Cook At Home'. It's like built in google keywords and everything. I'm going to use some of the suggestions I've gotten for article titles for sure though.

And on that note, you guys have anything you want to learn how to do in the kitchen? I can even tell you how to set one on fire by making ramen noodles!

I like garlic on my steaks but I don't like it unless the garlic is cooked until it's brown so that the bitterness is removed.

As a young guy (aged 19), I'd love to hear some easy meals to start learning how to do. My mom tried to get me to learn some of her stuff, but I just don't have the talent for what she does. Maybe a Young Man's First five meals to learn or something? It'd be nice to know where I could really start cooking on my own.

I'd like to learn how to make some good international dishes that don't cost too much, maybe some sort of salad or something to start off with.

This is a great idea. I would love to learn how to mix sweet and spicy flavors together. I'm assistant chef at my moms catering company. We cook a lot of southern style dishes. Most of the techniques I've learned are old fashioned.

That all sounds like stuff that fits right into my repetoir, consider it done.

I also had an epiphany... a food blog is a great place to review beers.

That means as long as I do that, I can write off beer as a business expense.

God bless America.

H = the food is healthy
P = the food is pretty
E = its easy to make
F = its fast to make
L = it might get you laid

Are you looking for sweet and spicey southern food you could add to the catering menu, or just sweet and spicey stuff in general?
