I'm trying to remix Numb by Linkin Park and I'm having some trouble with finding out the correct BPM. I've googled it and used the tap function in FL and have gotten different results. Some say 112, some say 108 or 109 (I got 109 with the tap function).
The real problem is that whenever I play the song (vocals) with the metronome to try and keep time, it starts out in sync, but then quickly goes out of time. In fact it starts out in time for a few bars, but by the end of the song it's so out of sync that the metronome sounds like it's playing the offbeat.
The only way to keep this song constantly in time would be to slice it every time it goes out and move it to the next cell. But then that would obviously make it sound wrong.
Has anyone had this kind of problem when trying to find the BPM of a song before? I'm really confused as I'm pretty new to producing, and I don't know what to do.

One of the ways to counter this is by double clicking the audio file, right-click on the "time" knob on the Time Stretching tab, choose "Autodetect", choose "Type in (BPM) and type in the BPM of the original BPM of the file, not the project. It'll stretch to meet your projects BPM and pitch itself so that it's still playing at it's original pitch.
Hope I'm explaining it in a way that isn't confusing. :/

Pardon the double post, but I hope you're not intending to post that to Newgrounds. Remixes that contains samples from the original is against the rules, if I'm not mistaken.

if its too compressed just line up the bpm to the playlist grid and get it close enough, then look at the end of the song and adjust it there to get in time

Unless they didn't record to a click track or there is some subtle tempo automation.
In which case... yeah. Difficult.
@Yoshi Yeah I tried that out but it still had the problem of only being in sync for a few times, plus I want the vocals to stay the same speed they are now, not speed them up. But thanks.
(And don't worry I wont, I know the rules)
@Buoy I have no idea what you mean :L What's a click track?

The tempo of this track is just a bit above 110bpm, around 110.04 bpm, I'd say.

I just ended up using 112 and it worked out alright because I didn't use the whole track together. I split it up, however some of the parts I had to cut so that they started earlier or later and it was a little frustrating.
Anyway, thanks for your help guys. I actually finished the song last night after working on it pretty much all day, I still need to master it and polish it off a little but here is the WIP.

If you can, breakdown the song into smaller sections. First work out the start and end of the first 4 bars of the track. Select this in the playlist view and export it to a .wav file as Intro A. Make sure fruity limiter, eq and so on are off so it doesn't ruin the sound. Then from the end of that fourth bar start highlighting the next 4 bars so bars 5-8 and export that as a seperate section and call it Intro B. Keep doing this until you get the whole song into 4 bar sections and then import all your wav files into Fruity. Put them on your playlist and choose what BPM your remix will be at and then stretch them all accordingly to fit on almost perfectly. You may have to snip bits off the end or even use volume automation to fade one section into the next section but if done correctly and if you put enough effort in, it should sound seemless to the listeners :)
