3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsSo I've recently got a new job as a security guard at a dock and I'm doing 24hour shifts 10 times a month.
Before that I had a full time day job, 8 hours every day, 5 days a week.. standard.
So whats your opinion on what's better doing 24 hour shifts and not drowning into the everyday routine, or working everyday except weekends from 8AM to 5PM.
I hope you're getting paid a decent amount for completely destroying your sleep schedule.
I think I'd prefer doing 24 hour shifts, simply because switching things up would keep things interesting.

Yea well, I get some sleep during the night ~ 3 hours maybe, so it's not like i'm completely awake all night.
That is completely fucking stupid. Say goodbye to your sanity.
I hope you get paid extra for shortening your life.
The sig that I'm wearin? Awesomely made by Skaren!
Also, I like annoying Americans by calling English football "real football" and American football "rugby".-Lost-Chances

Why shortening?
Thats completely reckless of your employer. How they expect a security guard clocking their straight 20th hour+ to be able to handle some kind of risky security situation to the best of his ability is idiotic. 12 hours should be the maximum any employer should want their employees to work.
I hope they're paying you well, but I imagine within a month you'll be done with those kind of insane hours and want a normal 9 to 5 job back.

Fucking around with your sleep schedule and avoiding sleep shortens your life. People who work nights die younger.
A normal shift would be better to me. Working 24 hours straight even if the job isn't demanding would fucking suck.
For I am and forever shall be... a master ruseman.
I'd do it.
I'd even love doing it.
Working shifts like that are very weird, your whole schedule is whacked out. If it's what you want to do, I won't suggest you do anything differently, but I personally would never want to work a 24 hour shift. I'd much rather have a 9 to 5, where I can work, and then come home to my girlfriend, or parents, etc, and be able to function normally as other people do.
Yeah, whatever.

I can't stand doing the same schedule every single fucking day. 24 hours shifts ftw!
first you need to look at them employment standards, its illegal for you to do that, and you can be charged heavily
second, you need to evaluate what you want in a job

I'd rather work 8-12 hours shifts 5 days a week. I'd prefer a 3PM-11PM shift over a 8AM-4PM or 9 AM-5PM shift though.

How is working in 24-hour shifts any less of a routine than working in 8-hour shifts? What do you think is so liberating about working three times longer than you're meant to?
Last time I checked doing over 12 or 16 hours in a day wasn't legal.

8-hour shifts are every day, 5 days in a row, thats a routine. 24hour shifts are only 10 in the month, so you have more free days.

If you're french maybe, but in America we can work as long as we damn well please.
24 hours would be more fun even if it completely recks my life. Atleast i'll get an awesome undisturbed rest afterwards
It's all depending up to you. If you like a steady schedule, then go with the 8 hour shifts. If you can handle long days, then go for the full 24 hour shifts. I for one, can stay up for quite a while, since I'm a night person and can naturally stay awake during the day, I would choose the 24 hour shifts. But hey, it's all dependent on you and you're abilities.

I'm that lazy bastard who doesn't bother to take down his damn Christmas lights. I still have the fucking kriss-kringle hats from last year!
24 hour shifts, you are just so much more flexible the rest of the time. I'd imagine you'd be making more full time though.

that's typically related to people who work 12AM-8AM shift 5 days a week for years, who fuck up their circadian rhythms because they sleep during the day. Humans atleast still of now are regulated on a diurnal basis. Although I'm sure it's quite unhealthy to alternate between 2 and 3 all nighters per week for an extended amount of time regardless. Granted the op still sleeps around 10 hours a day during the night, it may not be as toxic though.
24 hours is still ridiculous, there's no fucking way I would do that with any type of regularity. Now if the option was 12 hour and (16 once in a while every) shifts 3-4 days a week I would be all for it. I still can maintain a healthy sleep schedule and have a bit of free time. Same with school, I prefer to have my classes all stacked on four days (two days if possible) instead of spread out Mon-Friday and then get to enjoy long weekends. It also leaves room for extended study sessions.

that only applies to hourly wages.
If your work isn't worth fighting for, it's not worth uploading on NG, period. (JrHager84)
I didn't even know they had 24 hours shifts.
I never tried it, but it kinda sounds fun.
