I find it disturbing that no one has mentioned SNL's classic Gilda Radner.

Or Amy Polar, I'm sorry but Parks and Recreations is one of my favorite shows. Actually, there are a lot of people from SNL that are females and hilarious.

I think Aisha Tyler is pretty funny. Sarah Silverman not so much. Kristen Wig was my favorite part of SNL.

I've seen a few funny female comedians, but honestly, I think the main barrier to women in comedy (not just stand-up, but in general) is the producers who blindly try to decide what people want or what they don't want based on previous success, little realizing that what most people want is simple but elusive: good comedy.

I'd say that Bridesmaids was a major breakthrough in terms of a successful female-driven comedy lead by a talented female comedian, without pandering to a female-only demographic.

I like Sarah Silverman a little and this one new dyke comedian who is just kind of goofy. But overall female comedians suck and male comedians these days arent so musch better either.

You forget that half of the world is made up of women. While men comedians tend to cater to males, women comedians tend to cater to females.

Funny that.

Generally I prefer male comedians but thats because the less I have to talk to or listen to period talk the better.

Anyway, no one is forcing you to see/watch female comedians so butt out and stop being a knob.

But that's wrong completely.
You even said yourself that you prefer male comedians and that you don't want to listen to menstrual humour. What makes you the exception to this imaginary rule that male comedians cater generally to men?
What is it about so-called male humour that appeals to you?
When you understand what it is, you'll realise why every other woman prefers male comedians over female ones; men are naturally a lot funnier.

Some women comedians are good, some are bad. It depends on your sort of humor.
There are some pretty bad male comedians out there too, you realise.

Well I don't know too many women with my own taste in humour. Oh it isn't an exception, there are loads of us out there still, but I do know many more women who enjoy female comedians and I don't dislike them myself. I'm just not a typical female so jokes about periods, boyfriends, shopping trips, make up mishaps just won't appeal to me.

Also I'll think you'll find that men are intimidated by women who are funnier than they are.

Undoubtedly, since humour/wit is synonymous with intelligence, and any person is intimidated by someone more intelligent than they are.
But since the average woman isn't particularly funny, it isn't a problem in everyday life.

I actually have to agree. New Zealand has a lot of famous stand up comedians who are also big on TV and in movies. We have a comedy festival every year and it's shown on TV, and I swear to God the females are never funny. They always have the shittiest jokes.

I have no idea why though.

Eh, some female comedians can make me laugh. Sarah Millekan (Or however you spell it) can be quite funny, as can Andi Oshi. But goddamn do I hate Jo Brand.

grunching

they can be funny, if they actually concentrate on good material rather than using the fact that they are a woman as 90% of their material. see also - black people, gay people
