There are some very funny female comedians.

Hitchens' reasoning as to why women aren't funny was spot on.
I'd like to add to this topic by pointing out that female comedians have a nasty habit of alienating 50% of their potential audience by only talking about things that women can relate to. Example: Childbirth, periods, vaginas, etc.
These things might be funny to women when they're sitting around sipping wine with each other but it doesn't translate well into the rest of the world.

For some reason I replaced "comedians" with "Canadians" and was utterly confused by this topic.

At first I said to myself "Are Canadian women the only women who menstruate?"

Also the same could be said about Male's and their tendency to talk about dicks and sex and being men in general. If that doesn't appeal to you, understandable, but you act as if what you like applies to everyone.

It's not that they can't be comedians. It's that women just aren't anywhere near as funny as men are, because in terms of survival instincts they don't need to be.
Men need to be funny in order to be found attractive by women. If you can't make her laugh, you're at a massive disadvantage. Wit is a sign of intelligence.
Women, on the other hand, don't need to be funny, because men already find women attractive whether they are funny or not.
