If all your memories... 2012-08-14 10:49:31 Reply

Lets say that All your memories could be recorded.

All you have to do is opt to have the surgery to have a special chip implanted into your brain.

You can then use this chip to bring back anything you have forgotten, even allowing you to go back and remember thing from birth that you don't remember now.

BUT the catch is, when you die, everyone will have access to your memories. All the secrets you have kept are now publicly available.

The chip is indestructible, and can be put in without surgery if you hate surgery.

If you take the chip, someone will look at your memories.

Do you have the surgery? And why or why not?

What if you could also watch your dreams? Would this change your choice?

Clarification: You do NOT remember everything ALL THE TIME. The only thing that you can now do is remember anything you WANT to remember, with ease. You now skip the process of encoding a memory, and recall is immediate and easy. But if you don't want to remember something, you don't have to.

Hmm...would you be given the option to erase memories?
If so then id be mildly okay with that, but I'd still more than likely not do it.
Its my memories and secrets and I don't want someone else to have access to that kind of stuff unless I give them access to it.

Who would care who's looking at your memories your dead! I've done thousands of embarrassing things but none to be ashamed to live for. I'd visit three memories specifically for these reasons:

1) February 27th, to re-watch the Men's final Gold medal hockey game in Vancouver 2010. It was one of the happiest moments of my life and I had just started to play hockey for myself and was so proud of the country I live in. A lot of my friends and family were there and even though I remember probably 70% of that day I wish to relive it.

2) Every memory that included my pet Playful. She was my old cat that passed away and re-living every memory would bring me back moments of joy but then again it would also make me depressed that she's not hear.

3) July 7th 2005. This is when I lived in Birmingham and was 9 years old. Me, my Mom and her friend were visiting London an I don't remember much but we were somewhere near Tower 42 because I wanted to see it really bad or something. I don't remember to much and I wasn't that close to where the bombing happened but after I learned of what happened and we quickly went back to the hotel I sometimes think of that memory and in the background hear a distant explosion. I can never tell whether maybe I actually heard it or if it's my imagination acting up.

On the darker side re-living memories would make them less special then they are to us.

I'd do it, since I wouldn't really care if others could access my memories after I'm dead.

the answer would be 'no'. it is not a difficult question to answer.

the most obvious reason is privacy. i don't want anyone (even my close relatives) to have access to my memories because some of my childhood memories is quite embarrasing.

i don't need to remember all the details in the past. if i had a wonderful time, i would still remember it after a long time. if there are some experiences in the past that i don't recall, then they are probably not worth to remember.

I'd take it. It would probably make me want to be a better person knowing that people will look at all my memories one day. If not, I was only human, and we're pretty much subject to doing really dumb things. It's only natural.
