I got in a car accident today, my seatbelt and air bag did not do much help whatsoever, and my head smacked the front windshield, very very hard. I have been suffering a concussion ever since, and I don't know whether or not it is 100% okay, or safe to go to sleep? I was thinking of maybe staying up all night, but I only had three hours of sleep last night, so I'm not certain on what to do here... Any tips?
Here's the window, my head did that.
Yeah, whatever.

You're ok to sleep, the idea of staying awake is more of a problem if you were well rested and suddenly became drowsy. Also, there's some debate on whether or not you should I error on the side of caution but since you're coherent enough to write you're ok to sleep.

did you swing by a fucking doctor?
I didn't think it was necessary. I had to wait with my younger brother (who was driving, and rear ended somebody) for about three hours before the police came. I was sick of waiting around, and I really just wanted to go home and relax. It was very hot outside, and I was dizzy as all hell. It was a big pain in the ass for me, and I really hate the emergency room / walk in clinics.
Maybe I am too stubborn, I just really hate the idea of the hospital and all of that, so I always like to think I am okay, kind of thing.
Yeah, whatever.

Same thing happened to me actually, except I didn't have my seatbelt on. Didn't you go to a doctor or the hospital? They should havve given you advice on the concussion and what to do about taking care of your head and when you should be ok to sleep.

If you don't want to get medical treatment then the only choice you truly have is to sleep. Not sleeping will only lead to more problems which in turn will inevitably lead to sleeping within 4 days anyway. If you want to leave it to nature's chance then just get some rest.

I know, I am just paranoid as it is. About all things in life. Haha.
I think I will probably be okay, but I do appreciate the help, and I will start reading through that website right away.
The accident happened at about 3:30PM, it is 2:06AM now, so I guess I need to be awake for another hour or so according to Shauna.
Thanks for the help so far you guys, I learned a few things.
Yeah, whatever.

If you were hit in the front and your verbal/communication skills are fine you might be ok... If you were hit in the back of the head and are not experiencing sight or balance problems, you might be ok.
I was hit in the front of the head. Honestly, I barely remember any of it. My brother wasn't stopping because he was trying to squeeze into the right lane, and the man ahead of us was braking, I yelled my brother's name three or four times, and then I just remember the air bag being out, and me walking out of the vehicle to talk to the guy.
At first I didn't even know I hit the window with my head, the guy that my brother rear ended said that my head hit it very hard and he saw it happen, my brother says he saw it too.
I guess it is more than likely just a normal concussion, and nothing more. I've just never had one last this long before, it's been eleven hours, so it feels very strange. I suppose the fact that I am running on three hours of sleep, and have been awake for 21 hours does not help the matter.
Maybe I just need to rest. I'm just a bit scared to sleep.
Yeah, whatever.

It looks as if some heavy guy sat on your windshield -- it's hard to believe it's made by your head considering the "buttprint-like-shape" on the glass.

If your head feels strange then either go to the hospital or have someone drive you to the hospital. You might have a concussion and going to sleep with a concussion could be pretty bad. Worst case scenario is you could enter into a coma.

I wish I would have gotten a photo from the inside, there was glass all over the hood of the car, and the window is pushing outward not inward. It definitely came from my head smashing it, but believe what you will.
Yeah, whatever.

If you had a seat belt on then how did you hit the windshield with your head? The seat belt should have locked up before you had a chance to hit it.

As I said earlier, it didn't really work, and the airbag didn't do much help either.
It is an old shitty car that I think my mom's boyfriend bought for under 1,000 dollars. I definitely had my seat belt on, but apparently it didn't lock up, I wouldn't be surprised if the seat belt was broken, because it definitely didn't stop my head from smashing into the wind shield.
Yeah, whatever.

first be certain as to weather or not you have a concussion or head trauma.
If you have a concussion, sleep is the best thing you can get. if trauma don't sleep.
the common myth of not sleeping if you have a concussion began because it can be hard to distinguish between head trauma, and a concussion.

I'd like to encourage you to go ahead and see a doctor. At least make an appointment with your general practicioner. I totaled my car back in 2007 (little old lady darted across a 6 lane highway. Her truck was wrapped around my car). I did go to the ER, via ambulance, as my car caught fire. I had a 3rd degree burn on my hand, which we thought was shattered as well. I also went into the windshield, even being buckled up and with an air bag, and hit my head very hard. Mild concussion. Fast forward a few months, I started having seizures, and now I have all kinda health drama that I never had before 2007. (and I settled the case immediately, did not sue her, no intentions of ever suing her, so injuries are unrelated to any money)
I know you hate the ER, but get yourself checked out.
tl;dr, shit can come up later even if you feel okay now, I've been there.

I believe I've posted in here since last night, it's been 24 hours since the thread was made. I did eventually fall asleep last night at about 3:00AM, and slept until 11:00AM, so it was successful, and I woke up just fine, only suffering a bit of a headache, but now it is nearly 2:00AM the next day, and my headache is gone, I feel much better today.
Yeah, whatever.
