Sharp pain in left shoulder blade. Aug. 11th, 2012 @ 02:39 PM Reply

So for the last few days I've had a weird sharp pain in my back around my left shoulder blade. I've tried stretching and moving my left shoulder around in every possible way but nothing seems to click it or do anything to stop the pain.

The pain happens when I put my arm in a certain position, mostly when I stretch my arms forward. Breathing has no effect so I don't think it's my ribs. The pain actually feels like something in my shoulder is stabbing into my back like a bone. I do my best to pinpoint the pain and it seems to be about an inch towards the middle of my back from the shoulder blade.

Can anyone tell me what to do to or what's causing it or provide any help in general? Thanks.

The trick is to use the drugs once to get there, and maybe spend the next ten years trying to get back there without the drug.

This is probably the most logical choice.

Heating pad, then ice pad, then lightly stretch, then repeat.

I don't have a heating pad but I'll try having a shower then applying something cold.

And in response to the other comment I don't really know what caused it but I don't think it was from moving heavy objects.

I.Does the pain typically cause that area to go numb? To see,try gently touching the pain-affected area. If you do not feel the area then it's numb. You most likely have pinched a nerve.
II.Typically most pain in the shoulder results from soft tissue injury.
It could possibly be Myofascial Pain Syndrome in which a muscle has been contracted repeatedly. Due to repetitive motions. It could even be stress-related muscle tension and even bad posture can cause excessive strain on a particular muscle.

You should probably got to a doctor to rule out a ruptured disk, and they run tests to see if it's a pinched nerve.

Fix your posture I recommend heating pads and muscle relaxors. But sincerely... I recommend going to see a doctor immediately.

I do have poor posture. I spend most of my time at my computer on my bed so my back isn't supported. I don't really do straining activities. Occasionally I'll lift heavy things when I'm moving them around but not often enough to cause serious injury I don't think the area is numb either. It sounds like it could be Myofascial Pain Syndrome but I'm not certain.

I'll go to a doctor tomorrow and see if they can help but I hope their solution isn't something like getting a back massage or going to a chiropractor. I'd like to be able to just click my shoulder back into place myself or something.

Stretching is your best bet, or swim.
You should put Bengay or whatever on it.

By observing the pot leaf as your profile picture, I assume you smoke a lot of marijuana. So its probably cancer.

Most cases it's a upset nerve but in my case I lifted something heavy and I ruined a disk of some sort in my shoulder blade. It hurt for a whole year, I will never forget that pain.
