HERES WHAT WERE GONNA DO
the judges send a revolver with 14 blanks to every contestant by mail.
BUT only one is fully loaded
and we all shoot eachother on skype at the SAME TIME
whoever dies gets first place.
and will be an NG hero forever.
and ever.
the end.

Wait wait wait, where in the world are we going to find a revolver with a 15 bullet chamber?
Hey, sorry for being a little quiet for a few hours, I had no Internet connection. Only four people didn't submit; usually there are a few more, so this is still great. Good job everyone! Thanks to BrokenDeck for announcing that the deadline has been reached and thanks especially to RampantMusik for compiling that incredibly organised list of submissions!
First off, the rule of submitting to Newgrounds basically means that we don't want your submission to be on SoundCloud only or something. You have to submit it to Newgrounds. However, you can submit it anywhere else, as long as it's on Newgrounds.
Regarding the empty matchup, this has happened before in the past and here is what we're going to do. There will be 15 winners in this round because of the empty matchup of TiKRuy v. NeXsard. This is no good because it's an odd number. The 16th person who passes to the next round will be the highest-scoring loser from Round 1.
What happens now? From now till the 19th the judges will be listening to your submissions and score them out of 10. There are six judges so there will me 6 scores out of 10 per song. An average of each set of scores is made, and the opponent with the higher score makes it into the next round. Then, in the 2 weeks of Round 2, each song will be reviewed on the NG song pages, explaining the score you were given. These reviews won't come up at set times, they'll be coming up whenever the judges finish them, so keep an eye on your submission.
So yeah, sit tight for a few days and you'll get your results in a new thread sometime on the 19th, and a PM notifying you about it!

The 16th person who passes to the next round will be the one who gives the judges the largest bribe! :D

CheckeredZebra, I feel your pain.
:c
Ohwell, I don't really care what happens from now so long as it is fairly done! :V And from what was said earlier, all is alright with me. Shame I didn't get to actually face anyone off though. Ohwell. I'm looking forward to the scoring and reviews, but I bet they'll say "Percussion! Reverb!" =P
Man, lots of great work submitted!
My faves plus mini-reviews.

Damn, I'm not used to this much praise, but thanks for making this, I might do a similar top 5 (which actually comprises 5 tracks this time :P) if I find the time!
Innovative works come from lateral thinking. 4th Place Finalist NGADM 2012!

although this is probably set in stone by now, i just wanna say as a past judge that a good way to review is to write your review then score it, rather than vice versa.
getting all your thoughts down on paper and then logically deriving a score from that is much more coherent way of scoring, in the past ive disliked songs but after writing my review realize there is not too many things wrong with it and it deserved a much better score than i WANTED to give it.

God fucking damnit people

Yeah, uh. Sorry, but if you had posted stuff like this for your auditions, most of you would likely NOT have gotten in. Not nearly as good as the auditions.
[4:38 PM] Stephan Wells: it sounds terrible. therefore dubstep <--Skype. Yay.
Yes! We should've absolutely 'auditioned' with the worst track we made. What is this insanity to submit with a good track for an audition?!
**gurgle... sputter.. huuuurrrlll**
Just kidding.
Your tunes are the best.
10/10 all around, everyone wins!!
Except for 3 guys. You know who you are. Yes, you. You suck.

You shouldn't though! All they posted was terrible covers of John Cages "4'33", i have never heard such terrible quality in my life

they didn't credit the original author and weren't even silent

Blah, i hate it when people don't even try to do justice to the original. Did they are least put some effort in the 2nd movement of that piece?

I've read so much about that song and yet I've never listened to it. Or maybe I have, but never noticed because, you know...

Naturally, I would too.

Pardon the double post, but I wanted to get this in:
John Cage's 4'33", sold in bookstores... my friends were telling me about this. Beautiful front cover, glossy and bearing John Cage's name and title of the piece, but inside it, several pages of blank staffs. I do not know why they would want to spend £73 on what is essentially an overpriced manuscript book.

That's impressive considering you're the single person I couldn't possibly address with that post.

Boobs is the word
On the subject of most of the Round 1 submissions sucking: I get it. I'm just going to put myself in the group of people who's submissions were *blegh.* I could have done more with mine, but I didn't. I had actually completed a different song days before, but I thought it was too ambitious to be successful. After spending too much time considering submitting it, I decided to do something else and banged out another song in about 3 days.
Yeah I spent a while on my song but I was going for something calmer, fully anticipating most of everyone else to do dance, dubstep, techno, or something like that. I felt it'd make a good contrast to the abundance of fast-tempo, intense songs that were sure to roll in.
That being said... didn't see too many get-your-blood-pumping tracks this round.

I'll take your word for it, but I get worried with these things.....
