Eventually?
With cross-browser compatibility, the ability to function without needing any player installed, and hardware acceleration, it seems like HTML5 has more of a future than Flash does.
Of course Flash has the easier learning curve and a huge library of frameworks.
Do any people here who develop in both have any opinion on the issue?
It seems like what with HTML5 being able to do everything Flash can do and more, that Flash's days (as the browser-based gaming/movie platform) are severely numbered.

HTML5 isn't the same as Flash content. Though games can be created using HTML5/ECMAScript it's not a replacement for content. The images, sounds, videos, etc. still need to be created in external programs.
Flash will stay around as animation software.

How soon of an eventually we talking about? I mean HD DVD was going to to kill DVD, but then Blue Ray won the format war and DVD and Blue Ray now coexist. Will DVD eventually be replaced? Yes. Will it be by anything on the market today? Who knows. Likewise, I feel that a different product will replace flash, but not any time in the near future. Coexistence is likely for many many years.
Those who do not learn from the mistakes of their past are doomed to repeat them.

Eh, no need to be too harsh. HTML5 will never replace Flash, because it isn't powerful enough. It wasn't MEANT to be. It was for content of webpages. Even newer technologies such as OpenGL need plugins and are pretty bloated.
My guess: Flash will probably not be gone for a LONG time. Do not worry!

You're missing the point. Flash is animating program first, file format just second. SWF got popular because Flash was good program to make animations (and later games and online software), not the other way round - just like PSD format got popular because Photoshop is widespread. Honestly, while HTML5 may replace Flash for internet applications and games (second one maybe sparring with Unity) it will still stay as animation software.

If anything, Flash is killing themselves with all the latest crashes.

It's worse with Linux. Chrome is the only browser getting newer updates, and PPAPI flash lags horribly than the outdated NPAPI plugin.

I hope you didn't buy a new "netcomputer" just to fix it.

Either that or some of Adobe's people are secretly working with Apple.

HTML5 replaces Flash in the build of a website, basically. However, you can't really animate in HTML5 and Flash would still be choice for building web games. They'll co-exist for at least another 5 years.
Need to make an updated sig.

Yes, but not in the near future. Give HTML5 time to develop and Adobe time to keep fucking up flash.

In terms of website design features, yes html5 will kill flash. But there's still movies and games, which it won't kill.

Move on people. Flash is not bad itself, it's just that it costs money (people are just pirating it anyways) and it's badly programmed. And uses a shitload of CPU.
Move on people - Flash is dying, HTML5 is moving slowly in (not done yet). Newgrounds will have HTML5 by the end of this month!

Wouldn't think so Html5 is just a programming language for various web pages while Flash would still be in use for animation and actionscript language for games that will probably not be in the level to match First person shooter or real 3d games for awhile.
