wrong if you wish to purchase a handgun or automatic weapon you have to go through a Federal Background Check to get the permit then take the permit class, (in some states you have to get your state permit first) then you can go to said licensed dealer they do is show your credential including permits and you can get said firearms,

the gun laws here are more than reasonable.

Even if you had a gun, you'd have to pull off some pretty badass stunts to put down that sucker. The article said he had several hand guns as well as a shotgun, and an assault rifle.

ON TOP of that he had a riot helmet, and body armor, protective clothing and eyewear. So basically you would most likely have to get the drop on him and make it count.

Witnesses also spoke of thick smoke, maybe he had some kind of grenade.

Most people going to a movie theater would never think of getting in a fight much less shot at, this guy chose his target carefully so that he could obviously inflict more pain and suffering while meeting little to no resistance.

It says he was also a Neuroscience Phd candidate, which makes me believe he probably had some sociopathic seed in him already and something in Colorado just brought it to fruition.

most commercial body armor can only take two to three hits before coming useless depending on caliber

Smoke grenade genius

he used the grenade to make them panic to head to the exits where he picked them off

Educate yourself fool. For the sake of not being banhammered I'll elaborate. There is a 2 page form you must fill out that is faxedto the federal firearms commision before you can buy a gun. Any one who has been convicted of a felony, domestic violence of any level, or a user of controlled substances is Prohibited from buying a gun. This dude was in med school and probably had a fairly untarnished record, i'd be willing to bet he could buy guns in any other country providing they allow civilians to do so.

Don't forget that most people who were there had love ones they had to manage during the confusion. Not a lot of people go to the movies alone.

Honestly I'd feel more confortable with a gun in that situation, but that maniac had stacked the odds in his favor so he could rack up a body count.

If he had tried this in a bar it probably would've been more of a contest.

why, have you been in these situations before? like in the army or the police? because just being an NRA member and owning a gun isnt going to make you a genius in these situations and niether would it for anyone else.

yes because restricting a right in the US constitution is such a horrible thing. I highly doubt it the current gun laws are perfectly fine like I previously posted. I have no criminal record and am able to by assault weapons in Minnesota a Independent state known for democratic leanings. I could go to a movie theater and shoot it up with my recently acquired fully Autos but do I? no I don't.

anyone who has a clean record and passes the federal background (endorsed by the NRA thank you) takes the permit classes and has the money to buy them.

Right like that will ever happen, the NRA would return fire. Its easy to shoot people down when they are panicked and running, it's a whole different scenario trying to pick people off when they are sending lead your way. When is the last time someone gunned down 20 police officers? It doesn't happen for once you are being fired upon, you have to hit the deck and get behind cover, thus severely limiting your firing output and precision.

The gun laws here are a fucking joke and you're a fucking gun nut. It's incredibly easy to get a gun in the USA compared to a place like the UK and a lot of other developed countries.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence#Homicide

"Levels of gun violence are low in Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and many other countries."

"The United States has the highest rate of gun related injuries (not deaths per capita) among developed countries, though they also have the highest rate of gun ownership and highest rate of officers"

Obviously I'm just scratching the skin here, but there's a lot more, I assure you.

...

I feel really bad for the victims.

Even though Tony was acting a bit Mark Wahlberg-y, at least his heart was in the right place. You, on the other hand, are acting like a complete jerk.

I'm not the pony trying to defend potential mass murderers like Eric Harris and Cho from getting weapons to blow anypony up, now am I? Tony is a fucking gun nut, what did you expect him to do, actually give remorse?

I'm going to continue going to the movies and I don't want more security. Being scared would just be letting the shooter create fear in our society, which was exactly what he wanted to accomplish.
I was planning on taking my little cousins this weekend. Trust me almost everyone is feeling like this right now especially families.

Yeah, you completely missed my point. Incidents like this shouldn't be cause for national paranoia. I could understand being scared if you were there personally, but otherwise no. Did you stop going to public school just because of Columbine?
The very last thing I want is airport security in movie theaters.

That's the whole thing behind this story, even if you yourself carried, you'd still either not have much of a chance alone against the well-equipped maniac, and or you'd have love ones that needed escort away.

I kind of want a gun now, but even then you have to pick your battles. Even if you and your buddies all carried that night, is being a hero worth loosing one of your friends?

hey I admit its a tragedy, but blaming gun laws isn't going to fix it. this guy had all the credentials to get what he needed to get those guns

it is as long as you have no criminal record or just go to a gun show . the UK is a nanny state just give me three days and $600 USD in the UK and I could get one easily even though its a saturday night special.

trolling, but I admit its a tragedy, but blaming gun laws or the NRA isn't going to fix it. this guy had all the credentials to get what he needed to get those guns. so blaming gun laws here isn't what is needed here.

God, I hate second amendment debates.

it is annoying that anytime a crime like this is commited and guns were used as then hole legalisation of purchasing and possesing of firearms have to be questioned as people just dont like it when people die so they want to find if there are any flaws in the system which people are abusing rather than accept that man is always going to kill one another.

But just ignoring it and saying "people die, deal with it" isnt going to solve it either. If all guns were banned and all black market guns were the main goal for goverment to stop then mass murders wouldnt be as bad as you cant kill as many people with a knife (which can only be used close up where the victim has chance to runaway) compared to a gun (which can kill a number of people at distance so people cant even flee). But of course its probably impossible to stop all black market guns getting into the US that its best to just let people own guns for self defence and these killings which were carried out with legal purchased weapons will just be inevitable.
