You create a better home console that you can sell for 100$ and still get a profit while all or nearly all the games are F2P.
I can't believe people actually think all games will actually be F2P
Oh yes, I'm sorry. I forgot the part how you're a developer.
And what exactly is it you're making again?
You should totally add me on one of my various game accounts:

You're one of those retards who thinks you need to make a game before you can call a game shit, aren't you?

So many people don't seem to understand this project, including some of those who've backed it. There are some people that appear to believe that the Ouya is going to be in competition with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. They seem to think they're getting a next gen console for $99. People really need to spend some time reading up on a project before they back it. I get a feeling that there are going to be a lot of people disappointed by the Ouya because they don't understand what they've just invested in.
This is not a next gen console!
This is not a console meant to compete with the big three!
This is not a console that is meant to be high performance!
This is not a console that will offer a high percentage of amazing games!
This console is meant to allow developers of all budgets to develop on a home console. It's highly likely that the VAST MAJORITY of the games released on this system will be terrible. If you're expecting huge amounts of blockbuster titles, don't even consider this system. It's going to be very much like the old days when bedroom programmers would code up a game, stick it on a floppy disc and then pass it amongst people they knew. Chances are the game will be shit, but amongst all the shit that people give you, there will be a gem. Except now they don't have to put the game on a floppy disc and pass it around their friends, they can stick it online and let you download it.
All games on the Ouya have to offer some kind of free trial from what I understand. Regardless, most of the games will more than likely cost next to nothing anyway unless they were developed by a somewhat reputable development team. You can probably expect a large portion of the games to be completely free, as I'm sure there will be a lot of programmers attempting to create a video game for the first time.
This is a system for the little guys to express their creativity and get a chance to develop for a home console. People need to understand this before they start backing the system or expressing how shit it's going to be. It's not shit at all. It's a great concept. It's a shame that gamers really haven't had a chance to do this since the 80's.
This isn't meant to replace your PC as a gaming platform. This isn't meant to make you throw away for shiny new PlayStation. The sooner people realise this the better. Both the backers and the haters.
I for one think this is a fantastic idea and will be following the progress of this system closely. If they are available in the UK I'm pretty certain that I'll be ordering one for myself.

For a second I was worried this project wasn't going to meet its goal. I didn't realize that I checked it out the day it started, and the next day it was pushing $4 million, so fuck yeah! I'm super fucking pumped for this console. I love the indie game scene and I can't wait to check out these titles on a big screen. I've always been a console gamer at heart, but I've been playing a lot more stuff on the PC because it's easier to find cheap, progressive indie titles than to shell out 60 bucks for "AAA" regurgitated shit.

This system is pointless even for indie shit. If you're reading this text, and you have backed the kickstarter project, you already have a computer better than the ouya assuming your PC was made in 2005 or later.
What can an Ouya do that you can not by just plugging your PC into your TV?

Tough shit. The console market is extremely, unbelievably competitive. Why do you think there are only 3 available? Because Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo shelled out hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe billions. to keep their console on the map. Of the Ouya can't do that. which it won't, well then, it's fucked.

As I said, the mainstream media won't take it seriously if it can only play shit indie games.

So you admit that most indie games are awful? This is why Indie developers don't get enough recognition. There are a lot of actually good indie developers, but they're marooned on an island in a sea of shit indie developers.

I don't think so. I think a indie game console is nice. Kinda reminds me of the old Atari 2600 days. I never lived through them, but my dad has.

I don't think they are trying to SERIOUSLY compete with other companies, but I like how it's targeted towards a specific group of people. I'm sure that will only be in the beginning. Then later on, they will try to reach out more.

BUT, mainstream media does include indie IOS/ANDROID app games such as Angry Birds and Temple Run. Also, the guy who made cannanbalt help created a Hunger Games app.
My only problem with the OUYA, is that I don't want tons of android apps. If they are promising on the first party titles, THEN PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE CRAPPY. They should look at stuff like Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot, Halo. And not stuff like Keith Courage, or That crappy Bruce Lee game.

It's fine that you want an indie console. I want a cheap and reliable jetpack that I can fly to the moon with. It's just that neither of those things are probably going to happen. Also, don't compare the Ouya to the Atari. When the Atari was released, it had breaking edge graphics. That was top of the line quality back then. Those days are LOOOONG past. Retro style graphics aren't quality anymore; they're just lazy. Some indie developers intentionally make their game have shit graphics, even by NES or Atari 2600 standards. Fuck those guys; they clearly don't care about their game's presentation, why should I care about their game?

Again, that's fine, it's just not going to sell worth a shit. Selling to a very niche market rarely works out. If they want to make it to the next level (the mainstream level), that's going to cost them several times the amount they've raised on Kickstarter so far, every month or so. I'm not exaggerating. Marketing the Xbox 360 or the PS3 takes up an large chunk of Sony and Microsoft's expenses.

The Android and the iPhone are already mainstream! Angry Birds and the other apps piggybacked on the already hugely popular iPhone and whatever else people use, so they didn't have to get started on their own. The medium that they used was a huge success already. All they had to do was make the game. The Ouya is different. It doesn't have anything to piggyback off of. This is the point I'm trying to make.
Indie games that copy already popular titles? This has never happened before!
It's funny because almost all of them do. There's almost never any originality.

Yeah, and the group of people it's targeted at is morons.
This thing will never launch, ever. 5 million dollars is not enough to launch a console.

I don't really want to pay as I go, I just want the buy the whole thing and be done with it, that's why I don't like XBOX 360 DLC. It will probably have weaker hardware then the PS4 and XBOX360 too.

You have to be trolling. The Sega CD and 32x are universally known for being among the worst video game consoles every made.

This concept is giving me a rager!
Biggest problem with it for me, is the consoles physical size. Its just a turnoff. Small is good, but a rubiks cube size, I'd lose the bloody thing.
Saw a list of some of the games offered, they don't look bad at all, really. Just don't want to see a flood of 14 year old 'developers' making useless 10 minute games, everywhere.
Any idea whether this console will gave a GS/Trophy type system?

I think its a good start in the right direction. I don't think it will be a good console, but the idea and distrbution of it might provoke better engineers to create a better console If they even commit to consoles.
I heard the next generation of gaming is going to be straight from your T.V. No console involved, all games will be downloadable and purchasable from your television. So that will open doors for indie developers too, not only that but everyone would develop for the same design and same limitations instead of multiple (even though there would be different T.V designs).
Has anyone heard of that?

One of the things that bothers me about the kickstarter is that it suggests people only use consoles because they use a TV screen. That kinda bothers me considering the console's ability to handle masterpieces like Grand theft Auto 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 (I havent played either of these, but they both got a 10 from gamespot and I hear that they're pretty awesome).
However, the update saying FF3 is coming to the OUYA has left me kind of hopeful. Sure maybe the OUYA can't compete with the big three, but at least the quality of the games could match up with old classics like mario 64, the old final fantasies, the old Legend of Zelda games, etc. I even hear "chaos rings", a game from square enix, is a game for iOS devices and was also pretty kickass.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- no.
