Do you take pride in your heritage?

Hi, Newgrounds.

Today, I'd like to ask you guys a rather simple question: Do you take pride in your ethnic heritage? Being that you are British, French, Black, Hispanic, Chinese, and/or Vietnamese, etc. etc., do you feel proud to belong to that ethnicity/race? Do you take pride in the culture associated with your ethnicity/race? If so, why not?

Personally, I am not proud of my heritage. I'm not proud primarily because I feel that pride a genetic identity can and often does serve to divide people. I also don't know why I should be proud of something that I have little to no control over. Ethnic tensions among various races occur partially because of the pride that people take in their ethnicities. In general, I've noticed that this raises barriers between people, and isn't conducive to unity of any kind, be it religious, local, or national. It just doesn't seem to rational to me. Feel free to disagree with me if you like.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not ashamed of my ethnicity. That is equally illogical. I just can't see any good reason to be proud of it.

Also, it'd be very appreciated if you state what ethnicity/race you belong to if you feel comfortable doing so. I'm Ethiopian, by the way.

As for my heritage, I'm pretty proud I guess. I don't really have any strong roots in any parts of my heritage, I know that I'm Irish, British, Dutch, German, Italian, and Russian. I'm proud to have such a diverse background but can't really claim heritage from any of those countries. I have cousins in Italy that I've never met.

I'm mostly ukrainian which i am fairly proud of. I've been discriminated against for it too and even hit by somebody else for it. :/

I'm also part czech, german, and irish but mostly ukrainian as it comes from both parents. People often mistake me for jewish though due to my unusual last name and first name being gary. T.T

I'm proud i guess, and i do have relatives i have never met in ukraine.

I'm a quarter Irish, quarter Italian, and half German, and I gotta say, I don't see much point to taking pride in any of those. Not that I'm ashamed of them in any way, just that in the end, I consider myself as an American, and nothing else.
Then again, I am quite fond of my red hair, so I suppose I have some pride for being part mick.

My surname is as American as apple pie. I'm almost certaintly a descendant of english colonialists, but who the fuck really knows in this country? All I know for sure is that I'm a white American with an English last name. Am I supposed to be proud that my ancestors "built this country"? Or am I supposed to feel partly responsible for slavery and the genocide of the American Indian?

The other part of me is Irish, which doesn't mean much to me being that almost everyone (at least here) is Irish, and they all seem completely different. I do not look or act Irish at all, either.

No. I'm half-Dutch, which is, as far as I can tell, pretty crappy as a culture. I'm half-English, though I prefer "half-British" because of the Empire we used to have.

Other areas of the World my more distant relatives seem to have appeared from appear to be shitholes, so I'm glad ethnic traits can only be called half-ethnic traits in most conversations, so I'm lucky all-in-all.
