I'm not saying technology is bad, but I think we're too reliant on technology. Kids especially.
I agree with the usual things like "kids don't go outside anymore", or "people are on their phones too much". But I feel like it's getting worse.
And social interactions as well. Usually if you say hi to a stranger years ago, they'd say hi as well and you two could start a conversation. Compared to now, where if you say hi to a stranger, they'd give you a weird look or say "Do I know you?". I feel like friendliness and socialability are starting to go down :/
I just wish people wouldn't be so wrapped up in all of this. I mean yes it's all nice, but it's starting to become an issue..
What are your thoughts about this?
do i know you?sorry bout that but i do get what you are saying and i agree with you,it is becoming easier to become isolated in your own little circle of friends

Also, I like annoying Americans by calling English football "real football" and American football "rugby".-Lost-Chances
It's not that I don't want to go outside...
It's just that I have no one to play with.
I feel the same way, and i'm a kid myself. I hear alot of stories from my parents about when they were kids, and life just seems like it was alot better back then to me, without technology. I myself have no problem with starting a conversation with a random person, but I know alot of people do. Nowadays, kids (inculding myself) just sit at there computer most of the time or play xbox. Also, if you don't have a fucking iphone or something stupid like that, people won't like you lol. But I feel the same way dude.
I actually didn't go outside for like 2/3 weeks. It isn't my fault all my friend left the city early
Thanks Chdonga for the signature. <3
After reading this one book I almost wish I lived in the 1800's.
Smaller communities because people lived closer to each other you'd meet your friends on the street all the time and say hello to them and you would come to their houses and shit and talk like gents

You need to be charismatic! If you just go up to someone like:
"um.. Hi... I, uh... How are you?"
Than they're going to put you off. But if you go up to someone with your head held high and say:
"Hi! Name's ____. Yours?" (this is where you hold out your hand. Force interaction, don't expect it)
It's quite a bit less likely that they're not going to respond. Then all you have to do is say something like:
"So how's your day been?" (my favorite: *laugh* "So how's it going?")
remember: radiance, cheerfulness, friendliness, and posture help
etc, etc - gain a friend! Charisma really does work wonders ;)
Anyway: this is also coming from a guy who spends 99% of his time downstairs on a computer taking to nobody personally, so take it with a grain of salt.

I personally hate that "Hi, lets have small talk" bullshit. If Im not talking to you it's because I dont want to. Get out of my fucking face.
And then assholes have the nerve to get that self entitled feeling like "Wow, something must be wrong with him, I mean, who doesn't want to chat with me about paint color?"
I don't think that social interaction was influenced by technology.
Honestly, I've done the majority of my talking in non face-to-face interactions since long before I had a computer, a phone of my own, or any sort of gaming console. Today it's still true, I simply prefer talking to people online rather than in person because in person I get flustered and never know what to say. I wouldn't say that technology is "ruining" people, it's just changing the way we interact because now we primarily talk in one way to people who we (typically) are familiar with, which just happens to be either online or over the phone.
Seriously, who even reads these things anymore?
I for one welcome our technological overlords.
yes it is have you seen kids these days

If technology is becoming an issue then why the fuck did you use technology to kinda dis it? Why not go yell in the streets? Your not making sense here. You gotta use your noggin.

Seriously, what's the problem? Maybe some people enjoy using technology more than social interaction.
I haven't gone outside willingly for years. What has that achieved? I've made well over one hundred songs, reviewed over one thousand submissions, audio-modded thousands of tracks, made over 6,000 forum posts spread over different sites, written almost 10 books/stories and coded a fully-functional Tetris game with Turbo Pascal, which was no easy task for someone who's starting out at programming.
Surely that's more productive than going out, socialising and very possibly getting wasted on many occasions. My inclination to avoid social interaction has also helped me top my classes without studying more than one hour per subject. I'm not saying that going out, socialising and whatnot is a bad thing; far from it. For a lot of people it's an interest that can be productive and fun in its own way. But I think I've sufficiently demonstrated how a lack of social interaction can be a good thing.
The way I see it, technology is the right way to go. If done correctly, technology can make life a lot easier and encourage creativity and productivity. What I don't agree with is little kids having access to the Internet without strict parental supervision.
My cousin got a Facebook account by 9 years of age and my other little cousins are going on sites such as YouTube. My 6-year old cousin already got a 15-year old linking her to porn videos via YouTube messaging. The primary school kids on my van cuss and talk about stuff they are far too young to be talking about, undoubtedly due to exposure to the Internet at a very young age. This leads to them trying to act like adults to gain respect from their peers, and I don't need to fill anyone in on how harmful that can be for someone not mature enough like a little kid.
TL;DR: Technology that may lead to lack of socialising can be a good thing. Allowing little kids on the Internet is a bad thing.

Stop saying hi to little children. They find it scary.
If the whole social thing is bothering you, I think that has to do with how many options we have now. People might have read on a train a century ago, but they didn't have iPods, phones or other mobile devices. Even fifty years ago, television was a subject most people could talk about due to there only being a few channels, without there being literally hundreds of things you might watch. I definitely like that there's more out there now, especially when you have a lot of bands now that have all sorts of mixed influences, but when people live in their own little worlds (for instance, few bands I listen to have more than a hundred thousand fans), it becomes a lot harder to relate to people. You have less in common, and therefore become more separated.
If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.

It's making us smarter and dumber at the same time
Technology can be considered a double-edged sword, because it does make our lives in general much easier, or at the very least more convienent, and the ability to more informed than in the past among other points. However, there is such a thing as over-dependance on technology, which tends to hamper an actual social life when you have to check your Facebook status every 30 seconds or so, never mind the fact that in case of a major disaster, you would literately be helpless, or at least hindered without any sort of technology to rely upon.
With all that said however, advancing in technology is the right way to go, because let's face it, the positives of technology far outweighs the negatives in human advancement, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't ignore the ramifications in the future, both in trivial and serious matters. Plus, who wants to ride in a horse and buggy through traffic, knowing that the horse could take a dump in the street somewhere, leaving that stench around for you or the others?, but that's just me speaking.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
