So...I've been seeing this girl lately, for about a month now..I've gotten pretty attached to her, we share a sort of connection that I haven't experienced since my last really significant relationship (which lasted for about a year before ending). Everything feels right about this girl..when I hold her, when I kiss her, when we lock eyes. It all feels very perfect. Except for one thing..it turns out, as of about a week ago, she's actually 15. I'm 18 right now.

On the one hand, I really like what I have here. We can talk about things, we can have fun together, she cares about me, I care about her. It's nice. Her maturity and mine lock up perfectly, and I feel like something really special is going on, and that I would be an idiot and a bastard to walk away from it.

On the other hand, the men in her family had an instant dislike of me before we even met, and now I sort of understand why..to an extent. I mean, shouting "don't you be kissin' her you little faggot" as I drop her off from a date isn't exactly the signs of a relatable person. But I don't want to get attacked. I don't want to be harassed by the police. I don't want to be talked about like I'm some sort of sick pervert for dating this girl.

Could I get some advice, or understanding? I feel like if I knew about her age before I started talking to her, I might not have pursued this relationship..but I'm already comfortable with her. I want to be with her, and even more than that, I don't want to shatter her fragile heart. Is 2.5 to 3 years really not that much? What should I do? Help me Newgrounds please..

Its actually perfectly fine. You were on the line though, if it was 4 years difference, then you wouldve had a problem. Proceed as you have been

Well she'll be 16 and then there wont be any problems with police or anything like you mentioned. I don't think that's too big an age difference, it seems your only real problem is her family.

Assuming you do, or you get accused of it, as she's only 3 years your junior, it's a misdemeanour, as opposed to a felony. I can understand the worry about her felony, but it doesn't seem like they'd actually do anything to you, beyond calling you a "hurtful" name.

I don't think breaking up with her is the best thing you could do, but perhaps keeping it on the downlow, particularly in terms of her family, might be best. Although i'm in the UK, so the age of consent is 16 here, as opposed to 18 where you are, in Cali, my fiancée was fifteen when I met her, and I was 19. I'm now 20, and she's 16, and we're engaged.

The long and short of it is, if you love the girl, and connect well with her, it's noone's place to tell her you can't be with her, but it may be wise to keep it on the down-low, and for your own sake, stay out of her pants until she's 18.

(Provided you don't break any laws) age difference is just a concept. People are different enough as it is, if you find someone that gets you, it doesn't matter if you're 10 years older or 10 years younger. It can prove tricky with such big gaps, but 3 years? Definitely not a problem there, if you got proper communication going on.

Just make sure you both realise and understand the legal framework that is set in your country/state/whatever to protect her from sexual abuse (and don't kid yourself, consensual sex with a minor is still abuse, as statutory rape). There's no laws against having a relationship, though, as long as it doesn't get sexually explicit. And certainly there's no "nature laws" to how much age difference a couple can have. Just individual experiences. Some have had good, some have had bad. It doesn't constitute a "law" of any kind.

That kinda depends on -which- society that would be. I don't think any societies I've seen would see 3 years of difference as a bad thing. Most would just shrug it off and not even pay any attention to it. It kinda depends. Not saying it doesn't apply where you live, just that it doesn't around here. Agreed that it's not bad, though.

I personally support it, just don't make any stupid moves, and don't be afraid of what other people say or threaten to do to you and her. If it's really as good of a connection as you say it is, and there's no other problems then you should stick with her.

It's probably illegal right now, but I think it's fine.

A 3 year difference between you and your girlfriend should be perfectly fine, as you should be young enough to relate to her without being "out of place", "uncool" or anything like that, but old enough to make your own decisions. Now if you were say, more than 5 years older than her, then there is going to be a lot of problems, mostly from the public more so than anything else.

It also might be best to check the age of consent laws in your state, and see if they have a "Romeo and Juliet" stature, before you get it on with her.

Some of you probably expected me to post in here. I'm 18 and I'm with a 14 year old girl. I met her online and never had any intention of a relationship with her, but hey, you can't help you fall in love with. I can easily say she is just as, if not more, mature and intelligent as I am. We have a lot in common and have a very happy relationship, yet we obviously have a lot of people who are against us. Don't let those people get to you. Who are they to say your love is any different than theirs? If you leave her simply because of her age, you're possibly letting a great thing slip away. When it comes down to it, mine and your relationships are no different than anyone else's.

To the post above: put it this way, if you refrain from illegal activity and just focus on building on it, platonically, there will be a time when she will be 20 and you'll be 24 and no one will care about those 4 years of difference. There's nothing wrong with that. There's no law forbidding romantic interest. Only explicit behaviour. It's simple as that. Just make it count. :)
