4.03 / 5.00 49,539 ViewsI know a lot of you guys do "orchestral" stuff on computer, and I was wondering what software you guys use for stuff like that? Is it just FL studio or are there others out there? I'm not too well-versed in that world, so I'd like to know!
Sorry for the double post, but the title and the body don't make sense. This was more of a question about orchestral sounds.
Also, on some of my submissions, I used Logic. Is there something better out there that isn't $35,000?
Logic is fine.
Orchestral music is produced by using samplers. That could mean soundfounts, that could mean kontakt packages, and that could mean its own vst engine.
There's plenty of free soundfounts out there that if used cleverly can get you a nice B grade production, but ultimately you'll need to buy some good packages to get the quality.
Popular packages include those from East West, Vienna Symphonic Library, Cine, AudioBro, Native Instruments, and Garritan. EW & VSL are usually considered the high end while Native Instruments and Garritan usually the lower end.
Among all those I'd suggest the East West Symphonic package since it covers basically all orchestral instruments and is pretty damn decent quality.

I don't actually have it though, I used it in a lab. But I did like it.

VSL is sweet as hell, but it's mad expensive. I have the Kontakt 5 player, so I guess Session Strings are the higher-end string effects for that?

And where can I acquire such a package?
I'd suggest you give a try at DSK music, I particulary like Virtuoso and Overture, they are little bit bugged, but the sound quality is there (I'd say B+ grade ;P). Another sownside is that it is limited to 30-40 instrument. AkoustiK GuitarZ is great too!
Also Cellofan is a great cello (some people say that it's even better than east-west's one!)
Computer has no brain. DEAL WITH IT!
Stupidity is a dangerous and contagious disease. It can happen to you. It can happen to me

Dude search it in google. Takes like 3 seconds to find.

Kontakt 5 and a lot of its instrument sample packs are on a 50% sale at the moment.
Oh and @OP
There's a lot to it other than just good samples. Here's some chunky info about that.

Didn't feel like it. :P
Oh, and I've definitely read through that thread of yours before! Definitely a good thing for the audio community.

Lazy butt.
Also here's some wicked freebies.
I got that Kurt Cobain type of mind-frame

Logic is easy to pick up as it functions mostly similar to Garageband. Recently I have learned to use Digital Performer specifically for orchestral scoring, too. Once you get a hand on it, it is quite a good tool, but the eLicenser for Vienna Ensemble is a huge pain.
Fl studio is easily capable of orchestral music as well though
