Voice Acting/Demo Advice? 2012-07-01 12:15:08 Reply

Hello everyone.

I want to give a go at voice acting to help people with their projects. I've been told I can sound like anything from a professional recording to Hermione from Harry Potter (though I know practice is needed for the last one). How do I go about finding/making a script for a demo?

Also, do I need the sound effects and music I have heard in the demos in the Audio Portal? I have a good quality mic but I'm not a music or sound effect person.

Thanks

Well played, Ninjas. Well played.

Okay I read the thread now. Whoever is auditioning you will tell give you lines and maybe even some direction, so don't worry about getting a script together. If you wanna make a demo reel just do a bunch of auditions for parts and cram 'em together later on - it'll be much more natural feeling and it'll show you're actually invested in voice work.

Also demonstrate your regular talking voice in your demo reel.

Thank you!
Is there a newgrounds audition space? Or do I just find threads asking for VAs in the audio and collab forums and ask for scripts?

I LOVED THIS! SO great. Thank you so much. Wow I feel like slightly less of an idiot now.

Yes, I would agree that this is a relatively straightforward way of creating a demo reel :) I would add that it shouldn't be longer than 2 minutes (as you will probably lose people's attention by then) and adding SFX helps to add atmosphere to a voice and thus make it more convincing, as well as placing a context for the voice to help directors imagine where it could be used.

I would like you to lend your voice for a secondary character. But to learn more check this out http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1310099

It doesn't matter the skill of them all. A headshots a headshot... no matter how small.
