Relaxing Games Jun. 28th, 2012 @ 08:13 PM Reply

I've recently become to anal frustrated with games through a combination of being absolutely decimated in Multiplayer Games (CSS 1.6/B3), fatiguing RPGs (Mount & Blade/Skyrim/Fallout) and monstrously difficult games (Dark Souls/Devil May Cry).

I want to play something fun but relaxing. I don't mean something inherently easy to play, just something empowering I can go through without too much thought.
I want to just drift into semi-conscious stupor for a few hours until my Jimmies are Unrustled.

Viva Pinata is very much in the vein of games I'm looking for. Fun, but not stressful.

If a PC game, something undemanding please, as my components are horrid.

How about Fez. I havn't really played it but it looks relaxing. It's a really good looking game too from what I've seen.

I find jet combat games like Ace Combat, Over G, and HAWX to be relaxing, at least when you're in free flight mode. Something about flying around at high altitudes while breaking the sound barrier without any missile lock-ons or war zones below is quite soothing for me. Forza Motorsports 4 is also surprisingly relaxing if you're not racing. I've literally fallen asleep while customizing a car with different vinyls and paint jobs on occasion, mostly due to the menu music. Speaking of racing games, just driving around in the over-world of Need for Speed World can be relatively relaxing for me, not having to worry about other racers or cops. It's free to download and play, and it's not too demanding as long as you put it on low settings, so give it a shot if you want.
So basically, flying and racing games are relaxing for me, I guess.

Journey was a fairly good game in my opinion. But it was relaxing as hell.

Do you get relaxed when you fight Zero from Kirby's Dreamland 3 or Zero Two from Kirby 64?

The Sims 3 is the most relaxing game I can think of. Unlike The Sims 2, you never get caught in a loop of going to the toilet, eating food, watching TV, sleeping and showering.

I'd say Pokemon but that gets quite frustrating sometimes. Maybe Super Scribblenauts if you have a DS - you can summon pretty much anything you can think of and just mess around with stuff. You could make a flying, pregnant toilet, or a fire breathing flying rideable penguin. Or you could just glue some meat to a baby and put him in a pit full of lions.

The old Spyro Games for the Psx were really relaxing for a platformer. Maybe it was it the environments or the Music that was Composed by the Drummer of The Police.

Thank you fine fellows for the suggestions.
Unfortunately, I cannot experience the joys of Journey as I do not yet posses a PS3.

Regardless, I thank you all.

Generally I've found that the PS3 is really the home of relaxing videogames, but I'll try to stick to multiplatform.

Braid, though it is very difficult.

The lego games are really fun and accessible. I'd go for Lego Batman 2.

From Dust is a great god simulation.

Catherine on easy mode.

I'm actually kind of a fan of the Cabella Bass Fishing. Very Relaxing.

Endless Ocean

Tales from Monkey Island (Love these games)

If I think of others I will post them.

Rayman origins is fun and fairly difficult. Some people say it was too easy, I saw it was too cleverly designed. The game gets challenging but don't expect world 8 of mario bros.
You'll love the aesthetic and music, and art direction.

Already finished that one.

It certainly deserves more praise.

Finished that a while back, it was a bitch.

Lol not really.. try something like Limbo, Fez, or Sword & Sworcery EP. Actually I REALLY recommend that last one. It's absolutely perfect for what you want. Please play it and let me know what you think, its one of my favourite games. Its also pretty cheap on Steam.

Hmm, interesting. I still have that Humble Bundle, I'll give it a go.

Essentially every Dreamcast game feels like a "vacation" from games on all other systems.

Running through Emerald Coast in Sonic Adventure.

Doing solo flights in AeroWings.

Watching highlights of the fares you drop off in Crazy taxi.

Watching your airship duke it out with another one or a giant monster in Skies of Arcadia.

Watching your favorite Soul Calibur character in "attract mode".

Playing the sci-fi action/adventure cinema-like Blue Stinger.

Replaying the races you did in Speed Devils.

Listening to the oft-ambient, soothing classical space music in Armada, while zipping around the galaxy, and asplodin' the enemiez.

Getting a slice of life in Yokosuka, Japan with Shenmue.

The list could go on and on!
