If you're in the Marines and your husband is a Marine yet your just above poverty, no offense to your friends, but they must have really fucked up. Despite that Officers make more than enlisted, enlisted still make a good paycheck. I know Marines that have a house, two cars, a wife that doesn't work, are only an E3, and 3 young children, bills, and yet they still have plenty of money left over every month. Usually if you're married to someone in your own branch, you only get one bonus despite two for being married. I can't imagine how much bank my husband and I will make together when I get commissioned.
But on to the actual discussion at hand:
With the whole people pretending to be bums, I was just stating what I've seen and heard in San Diego. I usually suspect it's an easy way to make extra cash whether it's dire situations or just for spending money.
I know the economy/depression has taken a terrible toll on everyone, especially putting those in middle class into poverty.
But this freak trend with the kids in my area doesn't seem to be because of the economy. From interviews and knowing a few of these people, they claim it's either spiritual or "free" lifestyle or even a life experience for them. I'm sure some of them do suffer and the lack of jobs claimed them to the vagabond lifestyle. But some of them were actually lazy fucks that didn't want to get a job or have responsibilities.
I know other bums have depressing and almost horrific stories of slowly losing a grip on a "normal" lifestyle and slipping into poverty and do deserve a hand out. Just as not all bums are alcoholic drug addicts.
But I was just stating in my area of living, the kids that chose to be vagabonds, the fake bums, and the unknown/real bums are what make up the population.
