When homeless people ask for money Jun. 28th, 2012 @ 01:53 AM Reply

What do you do?

I normally don't give them cash, but instead get them some food and drink myself. I am afraid that they will buy booze or other things that they don't need if I just give them cash money. If a gas station is near and they ask me for money I will go get them some water and a hotdog.

I can't say that I've been approached by someone homeless before, but I'd probably buy them food over simply handing them money, too.

I've never been asked, but if i was I would ive cash not food. So what if they buy booze? I'd get drunk too if I lived on the fucking street.

I just give money to homeless kids. They wont waste it on booze or drugs ( I hope so :c).
When a grown man, capable of working, asks me, I tell him to fuck off and get a job. Unless it has some kind of handicap.

Where Iive, the "homeless" people who stand on the street begging for money are just scammers. I literally see them being dropped off by car at there begging spot.

If I were to ever encounter a homeless kid that was actually homeless, I would take him/her/it in as my own and raise him/he/it.

I have a hunch that just about all I have helped are really homeless. Once at O'Charleys we brought a homeless man a burger and coke and he just started to break down crying when we gave it to him. I will never forget that night.

Why can't they buy booze? You don't know what they have been threw.

I give when I can manage it. Worst case scenario, I gave a bit of money to someone who didn't really need it; best case scenario, it went toward a hot meal, a roof over their head, or the medicine they need to get back on their feet. And I know from personal experience that handicaps aren't always found in plain sight, so I don't judge by looks. Are there better ways I could help to solve the problem? Probably, and I would love to know what they are. In the meantime I'll do what I can.

I usually just walk on by. However, whenever im with my mother, she'll go buy them a meal if theres a restaurant nearby.
Also, i usually dont walk around with cash on me unless im going shopping, so i cant really give them anything anyway

I've heard stories of people taking out homeless people to fast food places and paying for their food. Apparently some of them get offended by it (probably cause they just want the money straight up to feed their addiction)

Also its a little disheartening to know that supermarkets throw out so much food but there are still homeless people in our cities and towns and stuff.

Right before I leave my house I place 3 single dollar bills and 2 dollars in quarters up my ass. By the time I reach work I've got a mild sweat but nothing unpleasant going on. I remove the ass dollars and put them in my pocket. When a homeless man asks for change I drop them on the ground so he has to bend over to pick them up one by one as he is doing so I walk off and laugh as he prepares to drink or smoke shortly after handling something from betwixt my ass.

I'd get on Newgrounds and ask what you guys would do if a homeless person asked you for money.

I personally give them my spare change if I have it. Never any cash, but change that I would otherwise accumulate and misplace.

If it's change, I could give someone over a dollar, but that's rare.

I usually ignore them and walk by or say, "Sorry I don't have any money on me" which is usually true because I never carry cash or change.

Most of the bums in SoCal are nasty new age hipster kids that most have chosen the vagabond life. There's actually even people that dress up as homeless and walk around or hold their sign outfit of freeway exists since supposedly you can make a semi-good amount from it.

Also there's the whole, they'll probably buy booze or drugs with that money. I rather donate to a homeless shelter or volunteer at a soup kitchen than give any bum money.

Yeah. "Choose the vagrant lifestyle." Boys don't often have the option of dancing to pay for their apartments with grimey old perv money, Tarah.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhC-7vSlJEY

I actually meant hippy* kids but there are quite alot of hipsters that do this too.

But no, actually in San Diego, alot of girls and guys have turned to being vagabonds. I don't know if it's just my area or others, but somehow it became a fad. The news was all over this two weeks ago as a "shocking new trend that's continued to grow."

I'm not denying girls don't go into prostitution or stripping to earn money. I'm actually surprised they don't since I usually thought it was a ditch last effort.

Some girls I knew from high school because druggies and formed "roaming families" where they hangout and travel with other kids their age around the cities. It reminds me of gypsies a little but I honestly don't know what they do for money whereas gypsies actually will do hard labor or random jobs.

I'm actually in the Marine Officer Commissioning Program. So sadly, I'll never get to experience having a sugar daddy or getting dirty money from old pervs (hard-de-har).
Also, interesting video. Thanks for sharing it, that was cool to learn the history behind a 23 year old vagabond.

If you're in the Marines and your husband is a Marine yet your just above poverty, no offense to your friends, but they must have really fucked up. Despite that Officers make more than enlisted, enlisted still make a good paycheck. I know Marines that have a house, two cars, a wife that doesn't work, are only an E3, and 3 young children, bills, and yet they still have plenty of money left over every month. Usually if you're married to someone in your own branch, you only get one bonus despite two for being married. I can't imagine how much bank my husband and I will make together when I get commissioned.

But on to the actual discussion at hand:

With the whole people pretending to be bums, I was just stating what I've seen and heard in San Diego. I usually suspect it's an easy way to make extra cash whether it's dire situations or just for spending money.

I know the economy/depression has taken a terrible toll on everyone, especially putting those in middle class into poverty.

But this freak trend with the kids in my area doesn't seem to be because of the economy. From interviews and knowing a few of these people, they claim it's either spiritual or "free" lifestyle or even a life experience for them. I'm sure some of them do suffer and the lack of jobs claimed them to the vagabond lifestyle. But some of them were actually lazy fucks that didn't want to get a job or have responsibilities.

I know other bums have depressing and almost horrific stories of slowly losing a grip on a "normal" lifestyle and slipping into poverty and do deserve a hand out. Just as not all bums are alcoholic drug addicts.

But I was just stating in my area of living, the kids that chose to be vagabonds, the fake bums, and the unknown/real bums are what make up the population.

I once saw a homeless guy. Ripped a 20$ bill in front of him and raped him. I also stole his shoes.

No mercy for the weak.
