The Greatest Pokemon Game Ever? Jun. 26th, 2012 @ 12:53 AM Reply

I decided to make, once again, another debate of the greatest video game out of the game's series. This time, our topic is going to be about Pokemon. So we'll talk about the greatest Pokemon video game ever created. It's optional, but you can see my Top 8 suggestions before you respond to the topic. :)
1. Pokemon Emerald (GBA)
2. Pokemon Blue/Red/(GB)
3. Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen(GBA)
4.Pokemon Gold/Silver (GBC)
5.Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (DS)
6.Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (DS)
7.Pokemon Black/White (DS)
8.Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/ Explorers of Darkness (DS)

Silver and Gold. Not only do you get a whole new world, but you also get to go back and explore the one from Red and Blue and fight "hard mode" versions of the Gym Leaders from before. Also, the 2nd generation Pokemon were pure badass.

Blue/Red/Yellow will forever be the best.

Silver/Gold is amazing as well, but that is where the nostalgia train comes to a halt for me. Everything after Gold/Silver has seemingly (imho) lacked the creativity and magic of the earlier titles.

I'm ashamed to say the only Pokemon game I've ever had was Pokemon blue rescue team.

As much as I had a great time with the first two generations, it's hard to go back to them after playing the remakes. To me, RBY and GSC haven't aged that well, especially when later generations vastly improved upon the gaming mechanics. I'm most content with how Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald were handled as well as the remakes for Red and Blue (or Green, I suppose) and had a lot of fun with HeartGold and SoulSilver as well. RSE had the secret bases and those were a lot of fun. Bonus points for them for allowing me to raise the Pokemon to level 100 with ease whereas everywhere else felt like an eternity.

Gold/Silver/Crystal, 2nd Generation. One of the main reasons is because you can visit Kanto, after beating the Elite Four and even face Red. The addition of Kanto makes quite a lot of land to explore. And also, the 2nd Generation Pokemon were pretty awesome, after that it kind of went down the shitter. Though I'm still a sucker for Pokemon games, so it's obvious that I got the latter titles.

Yeah, it was an incredible pain in the ass without using secret bases, since the only good trainers are the ones in the Pokemon League and once you get your Pokemon around level 60 leveling up takes ages.

Anyway, if I had to give my top 3 (of the first four generations):
1) Pokemon Platinum
2) Pokemon Gold/Silver
3) Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green

I didn't enjoy R/S/E as much. I didn't like how they trashed a lot of good ideas of the second gen games (weekly events, two regions etc.) and came up with some new things which were only a big annoyance in my opinion (limited EVs and Natures).

The second generation remakes disappointed me a little, although I'm still not quite sure why.

I've only played the first three generations, but of them the second set of games were by far my favourite. How anyone can rate the RBY games higher than GSC is beyond me. Second generation just blew the first one out of the water. Huge improvement in every way.

I liked the third generation too but it just didn't feel like it had the same wow factor that the second did. Like I said, the second way a massive improvement but the third felt like more of the same with some better visuals and a few new features, from what I remember.

Second generation of Pokemon games will always be my favourite, because it's unlikely I'll play any of the new ones.

to me it comes down to the HG/SS and Black/White. Those remakes were fantastic and there was definitely a lot to do with 2 regions to explore. It's really something I wish they would do more often with these games. I also liked how you could have a pokemon follow you around. That was a fun little extra in the game. I also really enjoyed black and white. I liked the region and the story more than most of the other games. It had some pretty unique pokemon in it too. Sure there were some duds, but I thought there were more good pokemon than bad. Every region has duds anyway no matter how fondly people remember the games of old

1. Pokemon Gold
2. Pokemon Emerald
3. Pokemon Yellow
4. Pokemon White
5. Pokemon Diamond

Those are my top 5. Haven't played HeartGold, wish I'd have got that instead of White though then waited for Black 2. Spin-off games are alright. I think Pokemon Collosseum is my favourite spin-off, I enjoyed Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team too though. Didn't like Ranger, I think I fucked up the touch screen on my DS a bit on that too haha.

Well, honestly, Emerald goes right after the 2nd Gen for me. Emerald exactly, not Sapphire/Ruby.

The option to catch both - Groudon and Kyogre, and later Rayquaza was fucking awesome. And besides, both - Team Aqua and Magma are in the game and I really love how they rival each other, really spices up the story.

Oh, and the Battle Frontier.

Emerald, Crystal, Soul Silver, Blue Mystery Dungeon, and Diamond.

In that order. Haven't played Black/White, or the 1st gen original or remakes. (Was too young to understand the FIRST first gen)

Tricky, tricky indeed.

If I were to play them right this minute and rate them it'd go like:

1. R/S/E
2. FR/LG
3. Stadium 1 & 2
4. B/W
5. Colosseum (Shut up, I liked this game)
6. G/S/C
7. G/B/Y
8. D/P

Now if I were to rate them from how much fun I had at the time thew list would be a lot different.

1. G/S/C
2. R/S/E
3. Stadium 1 & 2
4. G/B/Y
5. FR/LG
6. B/W
7. Colosseum
8. D/P

I really liked Silver/Crystal.

1. You were able to go to 2 regions and collect 16 gym badges.
2. This was the first time you could breed pokemon. And you were able to have rematches with trainers.
3. The pokemon in that game were AWESOME!

I did have Ruby and Sapphire.

It was a disappointment they didn't keep the Following pokemon...

Evee, which had 5 Evolutions.

Larvatar, which evolved into the good Tyranitar.

Houndoom, which was a fire/dark type. Would have been the better alternative than Mightyena. Mightyena was not that great for a dark type. Pretty crappy, actually.

I can't think of any others right now.

My favourite is Pokemon FireRed. Fun and simple game with a good amount of Pokemon. I actually still have it.
