One of the hardest things to teach young artists- and they can be any age, but they're usually haven't been arting for long- is how to take critiques. As an artist you have to understand that people aren't judging you, they're judging your work, and people really are trying to help. It's up to the artist to find the nugget of useful information that will help him improve, and that won't happen if he's too emotionally invested to listen.

Sometimes critiques are completely useless, and sometimes that very wrongness will help you think of a good
direction to go in next. You don't have to agree with whoever is giving critique, but listen and consider what people are saying. It's not a personal attack on you- it's meant to be constructive.

That said, next time you get to a scanner it'll help to save not only a larger file but also save it as something other than a .gif file- .gifs are great for capturing short animations and small things, but the compression means that only a given number of shades show up and artworks get flat-looking. I recommend using a .png, which is fairly lossless but the filesize gets big, or a high quality .jpeg instead.

As far as money goes, GIMP is free. In fact, we've got a list of our favorite digital arting programs here, and a bunch are free.

Also, don't give up! No one starts out amazing at things. Art takes a lot of work and studying to get to the point where it can completely convey everything you want it to.

I really would like to put up better quality images, or even get some editing software, but in current state of being, it is impossible without some money miraculously falling in my lap. Been trying to find a normal job, since being out of the military, but to no avail. 5 years out, and I've had a weekend job in a gas station, 3 years ago, and a seasonal job for 4 saturdays about a year ago. I'm sorry for the irate comments I posted, it just, It's just things have'nt been good for me for most of my life, only so much a person can take before he just snaps, I know, I've come close many times, thanks to the forced lifestyle, living on the streets, alone, trying so hard to bounce back, and being put down for it. Thanks for the critiques. After all, one can't improve if one thinks one is perfect.

bro..... this here is comping from a mentally diagnosed bi-polar psychotic who's world flips up and down and inside out from time to time due to reasons not even god can explain.

If your having these thoughts. Sit down. By yourself. Pick some music. Music you enjoy. Then..... THINK. Just kinda start unraveling your issues. Take out a sheet of paper and a pencil. Write them all down. Then prioritize them all. No matter how crazy they sound do it. Then write out plans and strategies to overcome each issue.

Then tomorrow.

Systematically take care of each issue. BUT WAIT!

WHen you do this......

Make sure your calm. Rationally thinking. And look at it with an open mind. Sometimes thoughts and ideas are stupid and should not be considered. THink about what is important and whats not.

For example.

I had an issue where i didnt think the stuff on my labtop truly existed and i didnt want to believe reality.

One day (in my head) i said to myself. THAT IS IDIOTIC.

Never bothered me ever again. Althought medications and such were a bit helpful to help calm the effects of what was going on, it didnt fully reside until i came to grasps of things.

OH YEA. I only read teh first 2 sentences and a few other sentences of your messages. SO yea.. But thats really all i needed to read. Hope this helped bro. Take it easy and calm. Dont do anything stupid.

Oh yea, and when it comes to art. Just enjoy yourself and improve for you. Take what people say because its important to see your work through someone else's eyes. Especially if you want to make money off it. if you dont... Then draw whatever you want however you want and simply enjoy yourself.

Art comes through passion, passion drives us makes us want to be more then we are. Through this passion we develop great things. When people criticize things we are passionate about we tend to get defensive and thrown overboard. When people come to my work that i spent literally months on. And simply say its a piece of trash and a child could do a better job i go ape shit. (in my head). But that is not good behavior. it takes time to develop good behavior when reacting to negative critiques or things you dont want to hear.

But usually its the negative critiques and things you dont want to hear that are the most important and beneficial. it gives you a realistic sense of what you need to improve on and how you need to go about creating your art. But you still need that passion and inner fire in your belly to help provoke and move such things.

That passion in what you make and how you make it will drive you to want perfection and drive you to visualize things other comic artists don't. Then you begin to become unique and being unique is important in business matters.

THERE IS TOO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT ON THIS TOPIC IM DONE

In my honest opinion the artwork presented is quite mediocre, and I would really like to see your improved works. From what I've seen from the scans you seem to like drawing very flat upright characters without much diversity. Your panel set up is quite fine for conversation though moments of action don't seem to be emphasized.

The red could be on it's own separate page.

thanks for the suggestion. However, this is a rough draft, I plan on drawing it again after I refine my skills. For now, you get to look at the idea put on paper.

Look up a tutorial on resizing and saving in Gimp. There's absolutely no reason an exported JPG or GIF should be 1 gig. As it stands, you're still posting absurdly sized comics. We can't see them or read them. What's the point?

Hmm, I don't know, maybe because I did, and it isn't helpful, kinda like you. As for reading them, who says I wanted you to, hm,hm. Look, if you are that interested in it, I have a fix. I'll put in a bar above my pic, panel by panel what they are saying, and if you still can't read it after that, well maybe you should use the magnifier, it is atool in your start menu, I believe it's under, what was it, oh yeah, accessibility.

I was gonna try to write something legit and try to be helpful but you've been an irrational dick to everyone giving you sound advice

However and enhanced the text, C.S.I. Miami style.
It worked wonders.

LOL. now that sir, is funny.

Later on, I might try to fix the text with it on gimp. For now, still toying with effects. Like how some is turning out, others, eh, guess i'll just keep at it.

Woow, well fuck it. Let's forget about the text, let's talk about the art for a minute. Why are you coloring everything like that? It all looks super blurry, try using a harder brush. How come on those last two panels the character's weapons appear on both panels? Are they right next to each other? If so, then you don't need to divide that panel. For fuck
s sake, what is up with that chick's tits?! Since I can barely see anything else, I'm going to talk about those last two panels. One of his arms is bigger than the other, he has no forearm, and for some reason he looks like he has two triceps. The chick, god this one is awful, she's holding her weapon all fucked up, her left hand is broken, arms do not bend like that. Her tits are enormous! No one in the world has tits like that, and if they did considering how small her waist and legs are, she would fall forward whenever she stood up.

For fuck's sake, stop being a dick, you wanted advice people give you advice, first you bitched, then you threaten to kill yourself, and now you're acting like a fucking dick to everyone trying to help you. We do not have to waste our time with you, so shut the fuck up if you want some actual help and want to improve, if all you want to do is argue then don't fucking post. This is an Art Forum, full of artist trying to hone their craft not a a day care, so stop acting like a baby.

Here's a better fix... don't post any 'art' again until you figure out how to make them larger and legible. And while you're at it... learn to respect the moderators and other users around here who are trying to give you constructive and helpful advice. I don't care how emotionally distraught you are or how tough your life is... that's no excuse for how rude you've been to people.

Once you've successfully uploaded a proper image to your dump, pm the link to TurkeyOnAStick, ornery or myself and we will unlock this.

Good luck.
