Your Perspective on EA

I read the latest IGN e-mail newsletter, which had an article on the apparent hatred of EA. It was an interesting read, and it did make me think. Looking back, I think I only really enjoyed 3 products from EA, and those were 3D Atlas (think this was the first "game" that introduced me to EA), Sim Copter (developed by Maxis), and Mirror's Edge (developed by DICE). These are all decidedly different avenues from each other, but perhaps the most interesting thing to note, is all of these games DID NOT get a sequel (....yet!).

Those 3 games were all unique and innovative in some way, but were quite enjoyable. What is a shame though is from what I've read, (mainly outside the article) is that big publishers like itself (ActiVision's no different), are essentially milking every other little developer under its wing dry, and gamers are starting to wake up to it. There has to be another way that companies like EA can break itself even on things. Outside of the Madden world (EA Sports), I think the company needs to make more factions from within to allow for more ideas, and if possible show that there can be power in numbers.

It's been suggested that big banks like Bank of America divide as well, and that's financial related too. I predict that EA will crash on itself if it continues to show significant dependence on other 3rd-party devs to keep it afloat.

I don't know a whole lot about Origin, but if it's anywhere close to as good (or bad) as Steam, I may take a closer look into it.

True, Capcom doesn't seem to know what DLC is. So it's ULTIMATE this OFF THE RECORD that. But at least you get what you wanted. EA lies to you, cheats you out of your money, and starts rumors about you trying to upskirt the lunch lady WHICH AREN'T TRUE, might I add.

I hate the direction EA moves in with some of its games like Madden (stopped playing after '06 but been a player since Madden 94') and they tote ruined Fight Night series for me after round 4 ( which was also avarage compared to Round 2 and 3) and God knows why they killed the Need For Speed series after Underground2 ( wheres 3 ?) with all those cops and car chase games which wore boring and repetitive after Most Wanted and Carbon.

The list goes on..and on.. Rockstar said it best "EA SUXX"

That was an interesting video, and it certainly made me realize my logic train didn't stop on time. IGN indeed DID NOT actually ask anyone outside EA why EA is hated.

The interesting irony about this topic, is for once, the target of the problem at hand was "available for comment".

You have to be joking. Yeah, if what EA was doing was reasonable then sure. But theyre not, theres so much shit they have done since Spore came out that you could write a whole wiki on it. That if the gaming community had such a problem with EA they should first stop buying their games. The thing though is that EA knows the community and knows how to do dick moves while making money at the same time. Case and point BF3's anti-COD campaign, yah it was a huge dick move and Activision didn't really seem to care, but it worked. Now whenever you go around news posts about how well CoD sells everyone is crying about how it's so mediocre and how BF3 is better, you go around and try to compare BF3 and CoD and the majority of people will crucify you if you like CoD better. If EA wasn't in touch with the gaming community it'd be out of business, but it knows how to regulate the masses to its bidding all the while trying to do the bare minimum.

Now I don't get why people are angry about EA trying to get rid of used games and trying to use online passes, used games hurt the publisher due to more server costs and less games sold and online passes at least help make up for that. To me online passes are something that should be praised as at the very least a temporary solution because it doesn't keep the whole game locked out from you but if you want to unlock the rest you have to support the company by paying 10 more $ (which considering how cheaper used games tend to be to new it's not that big of a deal). Now I don't see the wisdom in how far EA takes them (no multiplayer for BF3 unless you get an online pass? How am I supposed to know the game is still horse shit even with multiplayer beforehand?) but the concept is fine.

Basically the gaming community is loud, disorganized and ultimately counter-intuitive when it comes to dealing with EA and is basically trying to attack any solution to each publishers problems as "trying to make money".

Wrong, The retailers they choose to sell their games is hurting them not the customers. Gamestop takes 60% of the profit from used games if they have a problem with it they would stop selling their games there Or better yet make their game worth the $60 price tag to the majority. Used games encourage the less fortunate or skeptical to be more take monetary risk at a "safe" price. so if they feel it doesn't meet there standards they won't be as dissapointed wasting $30 used Vs $40 New. I guarantee if used games were gone there'd be a lot less gaming going on.

Their not just trying to make money their trying to make money and defending their practices that screw customers over with bullshit excuses. The reason why there "struggling" is because they don't know how to manage money and take it out on the customers.
