What the hell is wrong with me?

It seems that every new game I buy just doesn't hold my interest anymore.

Just a few months ago I went through a nostalgia phase where I bought a whole bunch of games that I only played once a long time ago, or only played as shareware.

But even that's over.

No game from any era holds my interest anymore.

Have I become too mature to be entertained by games? Or am I so nostalgiaed out that new games just don't cut it?

Maybe GTA 5 will rekindle my interest in gaming when it finally comes out.

Thoughts?

I know that feel man. Maybe take a break for a week or even a month. in time the need to play the new uncharted 6 for the ps3 will come back.

Does anyone actually read these?

Play a game that you've wanted to beat for a long time. Or play your favorite game of all time.

I've been having this exact same problem recently. I have no motivation to start playing a game, if I do I usually get bored quickly or make decent progress but then lack the willpower to go back to it again later.

I thought that since I was on summer break I'd be playing a lot of games, but instead I've hardly played any. I don't think it's because I'm losing interest in games, but I can't explain what's wrong. It almost feels like playing games, in some cases, has become a chore and not a method of entertainment. This mindset probably started when I decided to try and beat as many games as I could this summer. Now I find myself trying to rush through games to start on the next and that's definitely not the best way to do things.

As for modern games, I don't think I've bought a new title since Skyrim. I've been playing older games but it's not a nostalgia trip or anything like that because I never actually owned most of these games/consoles when I was younger. I think I just like the pick-up and play style that the 8 and 16bit era had. Now if you play a game you're expected to sit down for a least a couple hours to get engrossed, but with older games the action starts right away.

God that phrase really rustles my jimmies.

Anyway, maybe taking a break from playing games could help? Not playing for a while helps me when (on the rare occasion) I develop 'gamer fatigue'. Then when you start playing again, start with something you really love, or a new title that really grabs your interest.

I'm going through that phase right now. Played SSX for like three hours and then I got bored. Tried to fire up BioShock 2 on PS3 and after giving it a rest for only being 20 minutes in, I have yet to go back to it. Maybe all I need to do is go on a nostalgia rage, even though I feel I do that too often for my own good.

I'd agree that current games can be a bit homogeneous, but that doesn't explain why sometimes people just can't be arsed with older games. That's something completely separate.

Yeah I think I've grown out of games a bit now. I still like games, love some either I just don't care as much as I used to. Or I prefer to spend time doing other stuff now. Saying that I've just recently started replaying Space Colony once again because its like one of my favourite games just to pick up and play when I'm up for it. Damn love that game. Wish it had a sequel.

Nothing wrong though when your interest wavers. Its just life.

Take a long break. I lose all motivation to play for a while every 6 or so months, and after doing other things for a while I eventually feel like doing it again.

Also, too mature? Don't act like all these things are just for kids.

You're close enough for mentioning the Mega Drive. Problem, I never played Streets of Rage 2 before so it's harder to adapt to it as nostalgia since I didn't play it all these years ago.

You guys know what i miss. A epic 3D platforming game like the old days. I wouldn't mind seeing something like banjoo kazooie or donkey kong 64.

Just give me a overworld with shortcuts to different areas where i can collect and adventure.

Rayman Origins will cure you. I don't wanna promote anything but I've even witnessed pure ego-shooter enthusiasts who don't give a shit about either cartoons or Jump'n'Runs fall in love with this game.

Same thing has been happening to me as of late. I got a new game just last month, but i pretty much beat/unlocked everything i could within about 10 days, and just got bored with it after that. Im hoping once all the new games announced at E3 come out that i'll be entertained enough for this not to happen again for awhile

I've done that so many times before and it's never gotten old. That game has amazing replay value.

Anyway, I don't see how you guys lose motivation to play games sometimes. I've never felt like that before. Probably never will either, seeing as how addicted I am to them.

these are your mistakes

first you are actually paying for games

second, you stick with bad games, try exploring other genres

maybe you should rest from games for a while

I'm going through the same thing. I have a lot of games to play but I just don't want to.

I have been under same notion with video game a few times myself first time being with GTA:Vice City even with the use of a few cheats... A Good Idea would be to take a long break from it not just from the gameplay but also the Audio that reminds you of it, wait just long enough until the boredom really kicks in then it would get exciting as it was when you first start or at least when a few things seem vaguely familiar.
