FAQ:

no it will not work. because still people can abuse the button.
Evading bans shouldn't be an issue. Over at GameFAQs.com, mods and admins are able to see both the original post and the edited post regardless of how much it was changed, so if the original post is something warranting a ban, they won't hesitate in dishing one out. Newgrounds mods should have the same ability.
still, it will not work because even mods and admins can abuse the button. also, giving out bans still does not stop trolls (which accounts for approxiatemly 30% of the newgrounds population) from continuing to edit posts for the sake of trolling.
As for trolls changing their posts to something else for the sake of more trolling, we'll at least know which ones to avoid should they do such a thing too frequently.
again, it does not stop them from abusing the button.
Besides, we're not supposed to feed them, anyway.
this is newgrounds. every troll attempt, no matter how pathetic the attempt is, is always successful and 100% of the time trolling attempts result in flame wars. most newgrounds users are immature after all.

We have a link function that can link people to porn/scream sites, acess to put Youtube videos on thread which can be very NSFW, and last but not least, we have the biggest fucking outlet of abuse, the ability to put any kind of image in your post.
Well thats because it's an instant ban if you post pics not related to the topic or if you don't have a point. So thats actually pretty controlled.
Mods could check the original post before the edit to check for rule breaking.
Mods aren't exactly thorough and think about how time consuming that sounds.

of course. in every other forums that i visit, everyone edits their post at least 5 times and it is a well accepted fact that no amount of moderation can pick out almost all the abusers and kick them out.
what puzzles me is why most forums continue to have the feature even when everyone knows it does not work.

Then they can be banned by a mod for such abuse. Hell, they can make a new rule for "Using the edit button" if necessary.
even mods and admins can abuse the button
If they do, they shouldn't even have been made into mods to begin with. If a mod is abusing the very site features that they are to uphold, then that is gonna be a problem for the higher ups to deal with.
again, it does not stop them from abusing the button.
Again, a mod can stop them. Works in other forums, it can work here too.

Not true. And for the ones that are successful, they are soon locked/deleted before they get out of hand.
please read my first post to the thread on the first page for more information.

abusing the edit button is rarely a serious issue and i suppose people who frequent other sites besides newgrounds already know that.
nothing extra needs to be done if the staff decides to allow people to edit their posts (in an unlikely event). if they are still worried about the problem (without any supporting reasons of course), i believe that enabling moderators to see the previous edits is more than enough to prevent the implausible abuse of the editing feature."
Rather hypocritical of you, claiming that it wouldn't be a serious issue at first, then trying to convince me otherwise right now.

Well, what if we post a link but it ends up either being the wrong one or the site 404s?

I love how you're not even acknowledging the point system I proposed where only experienced users whom have earned the privilege to use it are the ones who use it and you continue acting like it would be an availability for absolutely everyone.
Sounds to me that you didn't read the opening page at all.

No one else has suggested any such method either. I presume it would be based on performance of how closely you follow the rules and guidelines in conjunction with your activity. Hell, this could bring an entirely new dynamic to the whistle status as it could also depend on one's ability to report infractions.

I did, I'm just telling you that the staff won't take it. Would I like to have an Edit Button? Yes. Will it happen? No. Is it even that important in the first place? No.

The NG BBS isn't going to get an edit button and it doesn't need an edit button.

We're not here to convince the staff to implement it, we're here to debate logistics of such an implementation under a hypothetical circumstance.

I don't understand the intent of this remark, by all means if the thread has more than one page of replies it's by definition a success. Beyond that it's a matter of subjective opinion.

You should also realize that not everybody TL;DR's threads. I have made my peace though, as I'm sure many others have as well. So I will take my leave.
