What game do you think has the best original soundtrack. This does not include liscensed music just music made for the game. In my opinion it would be Team Fortress 2. Nothing is better than starting a game and the first thing i hear is some jazz.

One good thing about music, is that when it hits you, you feel no pain.

Pretty much the entire soundtrack of Journey. Austin did an outstanding performance on giving the game emotion thanks to his lovely music. Plus the atmosphere was breathtaking at a lot of parts. It's just a beautiful game and I would definitely recommend turning up the sound if you have surround sound.
Although it's short, Journey is currently my game of the year.

Split/Second. Simply listening to a song alone does not do it justice however. You need to be in the middle of an adrenaline fueled race against 7 other opponents, with positions and even the race track itself constantly changing due to carefully timed power plays, narrowly escaping explosions, collapsing building, and even crashing aircraft with your race car barely intact to fully experience the soundtrack.
But that's just my humble opinion.
You can find the soundtrack here if you're interested.

Lately i've been listening to the Bastion soundtrack while running and it's pretty great as a whole.
I've even learned to play a few of the riffs by ear on guitar
Give it a listen

The purpose of soundtrack is to bring the right atmosphere. My top three in that fashion is:
1. Rayman (1 or 3, choose one). Just listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjYS0riWbPk&feature=player_de tailpage#t=118s (especially 1:58) or: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuzr7N9exg8
2. Heavy Rain. Anyone who has played know what I'm talking about. It could well go as movie soundtrack. No preview, go buy it yourself :p
3. Jak 3. Definite step-up from the "casio tiki-style" (or whatevs) of previous Jaks. It's more orchestral, and generally better, even though it's nothing that stays in memory for long. Have a listen (not if you dislike calm & orchestral): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9ecSlHenPo

Definitely Bastion. Every song in that game is beautiful, and the way music, game play and story merge in (one of) the ending(s) is simply marvellous.
"Anything could happen in the next half hour!"
"For the love of God, don't stop pretending you're a dragon!"

I love the Pokemon game soundtracks, particularly Gold since it evokes the most memories. I do like Minecraft's soundtrack too, very calming yet haunting in some places.

I agree with you on the Kingdom Heart soundtracks being really good but I have always LOATHED the Sonic Heroes soundtrack. It just sounded SO corny for me.

True sonic heroes in it of itself is pretty corny. But yes I agree most of the sonic heroes team theme songs are cheesy. But tracks like ocean palace hang castle and egg emperor and What I'm made of make up for it.

I like the music style in Jak II because it was very interactive with the action on screen I like how it get's more up beat when you draw a weapon or more intense as you fight more and more enemies at a time.
Here's my favorite them from jak II

On top of Team Fortress 2 I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 would go all the way in my top 3. Definitely one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard!

Ratchet: Deadlocked.
Hands down.
Seriously.
I listen to the whole thing on many occasions. It's a great jam.
This is my signature. It is a nice signature.

Ratchet & Clank. There was little better than firing it up and listening to that whimsical beauty. It remains one of the PS2's greatest games.
