Rather predictable metalcore. This kind of structure and riffing doesn't surprise me anymore. I'll give them credits for having a little more personality in their music compared to other metalcore bands. The personality however is still limited to playing some tremolo picking riffs to show some kind of bm influences. Otherwise, the leads are okay, but the rhythm section is generic metalcore riffing. 5.5/10

Pretend not to care about anything, but be bothered by everything.

Wuh? It's just a theme he's working with. If you're that put off by religious themes then good luck listening to any early blues or folk.
It's not like an artist is automatically condoning or encouraging something just because they sing about it. I don't think John Lennon thought he was a walrus, either.
If you would have shared this first, I think I'd have rated this one 7.5 or 8/10. It's pretty good :)
Among the many, many reasons why you should watch The Wire if you haven't already, the theme song is a different version of "Way Down In the Hole" each season.

This is freaking awesome. I love the slow grooving feel to it and how the bass and guitar play off each other like... perfectly. And then the chorus kicks in, crazy intense. The solos are great as well, melodic and restrained. I love the balance between light and dark in this song, and the lyrics struck me as actually really profound. "Do I belong to the dark? Only tonight." I mean that shit's pretty deep.

Yeah man, if you don't have it already definitely get a hold of Television's "Marquee Moon." One of the best albums of all time, for sure.

Heh, I think this is like the third time someone has posted this song. For good reason, as Aesop Rock is awesome. 8/10
Oh, yes, the Wire was fantastic.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they do. Hahaha. It's pretty much become my thread. I wish more people would post here more often. I don't like being one of the only people posting in it ._.

It's not what I'm saying. But usually, you can tell by feeling and by the knowledge you have of a scene or another if the lyrics have to be taken in a way or another. Like, I've always felt that death metal lyrics, especially those dealing with mutilation, gore and deaht shouldn't be taken seriously. Bands like Cannibal Corpse or Blood Red Throne are good examples of this. But some genres, such as black metal, often have vocalists singing about what they truly believe. I'm thinking about Janaza, which is a band with heavily anti-islamic lyrics and I know that this is what the vocalists truly belive.
In the case of that Tom Waits song, I felt that the lyrics had very "first degree" religious lyrics. Like... "this is what he really thought". Of course, if you take tracks like Anything by SΔMMUS. You know she's not really saying that she'd do anything for the lights and the fame.
not music, but it's an audio cd and is worth mentioning. I have been playing this a lot lately and it is fucking great.

Fuckin' legends of stoner doom. I've always felt that there should be more bands playing a more bass focuse style of metal. And that's what's awesome about doom. It leaves place for bass in such a way, that you can even write music withtout guitars.
I love their stuff. 9/10
Here's some summer stuff I'm listening to, to try and forget I'm going back to school and that I'm terrorised by the idea of starting my master degree.

I've been trying to convince my sister (who plays bass) to start an OM tribute band or do something like that for the longest time and she still wont do it. I'm okay enough at bass to try doing something like that but it wouldn't be half as good as OM.
