I believe the theory of evolution's idea is that we didn't evolve from monkeys, but humans and monkeys evolved from the same ancestor, and before that happened that ancestor evolved from something slightly different that came before it, then that repeats aaalll the way to like some microscopic bacteria or whatever.

Stages of evolution between homo sapiens and whatever the common ancestor between man and monkey was, probably. You wouldn't just jump from one to the other without any steps in between, we need generation after generation to slowly develop the features that make us unique as a species.

Well, if you want to get technical, we all evolved from charged amino acids that eventually became cells that further evolved into things like plants, bugs, fish, etc., until around a few million years ago, man came into being around southeastern Africa. Of course, Africa wasn't the barren wasteland it is now, but that's besides the point.
