Using an old hardrive with new PC 2012-06-02 21:50:22 Reply

So I am planning on getting a new PC soon, the question is how would the hardrive effect the computer? Would a new hardrive only increase the storage etc? Or would it effect in other ways like effecting the ram and graphics and other capabilities etc?

As I know the ram and graphics cards etc. are different and will be a part of the new PC, but wondering if I can still use my old hardrive with it or if I will need to get a new one to allow the things to work or if it will all be made possible by the mother board etc. If it won't make a difference other than storage space then I would likely like to keep with my current hardrive as I like it and named it as I am weird like that.

You can just stick it in, just that it wont be C: anymore.

I mean, you can get a new hard drive and stick the old one in too, just that the old one wont be in the C: drive anymore. I have 3 hard drives myself. Wont make a difference to performance at all as long as theyre set so they never go to sleep.

Ah ok, thanks. I do like the idea of keeping all my stuff on the same hardrive and not changing it all to a new bigger one when it isn't needed. I guess I could always use the other for backup and storage etc. I just wasn't sure if it had some effect on the computer's capabilities I wasn't aware of.

Pony romance.

Yeah because a thirty page long fan fiction with two pages leading up to twenty eight pages of "hnnnng Rainbow Dash" "hnnnng Fluttershy" is "romance."

Yeah theyre really hard and they never stop running. They have lots of storage space if you know what I mean and can all run at the same time. One of them is huge while one is pretty small and one is average.

HDDs, RAM, and graphics are three totally separate entities. One will not effect the other.
It will increase your storage capacity (it will just be another drive slot in your OS) - and if it has an OS in it, you can boot from it as well. Just go to your BIOS's boot menu and select that HDD.

As I know the ram and graphics cards etc. are different and will be a part of the new PC, but wondering if I can still use my old hardrive with it or if I will need to get a new one to allow the things to work or if it will all be made possible by the mother board etc. If it won't make a difference other than storage space then I would likely like to keep with my current hardrive as I like it and named it as I am weird like that.

again, totally separate things. You can have as many HDDs as you have slots for (I prefer SATA, but if it's an old HDD it's probably an IDE)

Stop posting stuff about pony porn and contribute to the thread, that is why these are created.

Threads are created to be relevant to the topic

You responding to me and not the OP is just as irrelevant as me mentioning how the OP writes pony porn. Alright, I'll say it now, everyone stop quoting me in this thread, or else we'll derail it more. My original post was at least somewhat relevant, you quoting me just because I hurt your feelings through a PM is just as irrelevant as Spider-Man, NightOwlFaggot.

Back on topic, OP any old hard drive will work on a new computer

My name is Fluttershy, and I fully endorse the derailing of this thread with pony.

Ah ok, I think my brother mentioned he might be coming around so can probably make sure he gets all that stuff in working correctly as I am to lazy to find out how to deal with such things myself :p

Yea, when I'm not procrastinating at least it is very enjoyable to write, especially trying different styles and genres, didn't expect to suddenly gather so much hatred for it after doing it for almost a year now though. Especially not when asking about hardrives.
