Right. Let's look a the Cold War conflicts that the US was in that they were fighting Communism against all odds, say the Korean War and the Vietnam war. Both wars were unpopular in their time as being huge stalemates, yet the Presidents who started them refused to give up and abandon their ally. Now let's see the two Presidents who started them, Truman started the Korean War intervention and Johnson started expanded US intervention in Vietnam. Both presidents were presidents who seeked to expand government institutions like social security (Truman wanted Universal Healthcare) more Socialist as you would say. Yet both fought against all odds against Communism, while say the Republicans preferred playing Ping Pong with the Communists, how does that work?

The Democrats first off weren't even all Liberals at the time in fact they had the most Conservative politicians in the country in their party, those politicians had started leaving for the Republican party in the 60's - 90's while all the moderates in the Republican party started heading off the Democrat party.

Second off this still doesn't explain the fact that the Democrats had the toughest policies against Communism while the Republicans had the lighter ones, hell the Republicans were the ones who recognized the People's Republic of China as well as the ones who did deals with them. If anything the Republicans are the secret Commies who seek to bring America under a Communist regime.

Personally, I don't think that sounds like something very intelligent for Romney to say. He's just saying we shouldn't spend so much on the military, which is completely ridiculous because I think we spend more on military spending than any other country in the world. Granted, he didn't say that he was going to attack any specific country (although he did mention Syria) but it's not something we should focus on. Of course, veterans seem to be taking his side more.
