Did you "hear this" from somebody who's information can actually be verified or tested?

I gotta say, my lock finger is very twitchy on this topic since we have really very little sourcing for the assertions and for discussion and we seem more interested in discussing the merits of teacher's unions instead...

Right, that's just bad teachers, I fail to see how this means Teacher Unions should be dissolved. I've heard of a teacher who was pretty old and for awhile stopped showing up to work, then the Union forced him back and he showed his class a movie and after that played his guitar and sang a song. According to your logic he would've kept his job, he didn't he was fired to no one's surprise. In fact at my school there are bad teachers, but they still try to do their job. All of them as far as I know are part of the teacher's union there, and there hasn't been a strike since the 70's. This would be like saying there are businesses which dump their toxic waste into rivers and that means all businesses should be dissolved, yah sure there are bad businesses but there are also good ones and a couple of regulations are needed without the outright dissolution of all businesses.

The problem moreover is the assumption that having amazing credentials in a subject means that you are able to teach it, which often isn't the case. In fact I looked up the two worst teacher's at my school's credentials, and they have pretty damn impressive college degree's not to mention multiple. Then i compare them with better teacher's, and find out that they don't have relatively unimpressive degree's usually one meh college along with going to a Community College. That is more why they won't be fired, because their credentials are pretty hard to find in the world despite the fact that they're horrible teachers. I could digress and say teaching is more a social skill than anything but I think that's adequate.

Given the fact he was "forced back to school" and not simply terminated for not coming to work speaks volumes. IF I don't show up for work and not call in, even for one day, I'm done, gone, fired, terminated, never to work there again most likely. should teachers be tenured? if you ask me, hell no! I can see protecting teacher's jobs from some guy going, "I don't like you, you're fired." However, I can't see the point in protecting a teachers job when they don't make a lesson plan, or simply not show up, or simply not perform.

What exactly is a Charter School? The language and expectations keep changing. The best thing to do is separate all the college-bound students from the "blue-collar" students who just want to get by and screw off in class. Only then will we fix education and become competative again.

if you do that the minorities will be bitching about racism when they realize that there is 1 more white guy than black woman in the college class.
