Do you have a religion; do you believe in a god or are you Agnostic or pure Atheist? Why do you believe what you believe or choose not to believe?
I personally am a Christian. I believe the Holy Bible. I choose the Holy Bible because it is what I was taught to believe from since I was a kid and I also do think when I pray to Jesus listens.

The problem with religion is that it is chosen for most when they are children. I think people should try out different religions before picking one.

God came to me in a dream and told me to be an atheist...
In all seriousness, I've always been a free thinking person. I've had moments were I did try to believe in God, but I'm naturally faithless. I never could take the faith seriously, even as a kid. If anything, reading The Bible has made me a stronger atheist. I view the hierarchy as a political machine, where God is the ultimate politician. Everything good is attributed to God (whether he deserves the credit or not) and his surrogates spread the word.
I do have an appreciation on how religion has improved society. Some do good works, and there is some wisdom in the Bible and other holy texts. And there is something powerful in bringing people together for a cause greater than their own. But, these things have been exploited and have caused as much harm as it has good. People have done bad in the name of good.

I don't know how this fits in the Politics section but whatever.
I'm Agnostic, but lately I've been leaning a bit towards apathetic. And no, I will not talk about my opinion on whether religion is a good thing or a bad thing. If I did I'd get flamed by hundreds of militant atheists (or Dawkins wannabes as I like to call them). After all, this is Newgrounds.

Atheist. As for belief being a choice, if you have to choose then you don't truly believe now do you?

I used to be a Christian, but as I got older and I started accepting my bisexuality more and more, I decided to look more into the bible. From what I read and what I was told growing up, I became an agnostic and then over time, an atheist.

"Politics" in this case is a loosely defined codeword for "you can have a serious, thoughtful discussion here and (usually) not get trolled."
Personally I'm an atheist-agnostic, and if statistics are to be believed I'm actually in pretty good company in my home state. I was raised in a Christian family, but decided on atheism around age 12 or 13 when I realized I had no logical reason to believe a god existed. Since then I've become more open to the idea, but I've yet to see any substantial evidence that a god exists, and the concept of God as the entity is popularly understood today seems to be inherently unprovable, while the "proof" people attempt to provide seems to always have a more rational explanation. Religion works for some people; I understand and accept that. I'm just not one of those people.

In case you didn't notice, religion and politics are very intertwined. Intertwined in the issue of church and state. Religion also has a strong effect on the politivcal bieliefs of a person.

Atheist, I just outright don't care about religion and don't consider a god a possibility from the present standpoint. It also seems quite suspicious why only one country for a long time worshiped the true "god" and had to spread the faith, which doesn't make any sense because why would this one true "god" be forsaken all over the damn world and more importantly never even recorded or remembered outside of Canaan?

There are so many different answers. It cuts down to two sides of belief and no belief. I wonder what our future will be in our world. I believe in a few more years there will be so many people openly saying there atheist that it would be rare to find a believer by faith. This is very interesting. Thank you all for posting your thoughts and views on this form!

Without delving into a mass of semantics, the best fitting description would be Agnostic-Atheist.

I am in fact a Christain. I admit that it would probably take me a long time to really explain what I mean by that, in the same sense it would take awhile for Trey Parker of "South Park" to explain what he means when he says he's religious. He said something that basically sums up my feelings, which was of all the ridiculous religious stories, he thought the strangest was that life had no meaning. I'm pretty much the same way. Let's just say I'm religious and Christian and leave it at that?

Erm, actually I also am curious why this is in the Politics forum and not somewhere like General? If there was a discussion about religion then it would certainly have a place here, but simply stating one's beliefs isn't a good way to produce a meaningful dialogue. Eh, not my call - if no one else cares then who am I to ruin it.
Catholic. That sect of Christianity makes the most sense theologically & philosophically, even if many of it's members and clergy don't seem to. They're also one of a few that are not stuck on Sola Scriptura and acknowledge evolution as the way the world formed.
Also, the current Pope looks like the Emperor from Star Wars, which is kind of awesome.

Actually, he outsourced that part of his job to Bangalore.
I'm an atheist. I'd describe myself as having no reason to believe in a deity. And if I one day find out that there is a god and it's one of the violent, vengeful gods of mainstream religion, I'd choose not to worship it.

No offense, but I meant how you are about people's opinions and whatnot when it comes to religion. I mean, it's rational, so whatev.
