So Fabiana Murer, a Brazilian athlete and one of the favorites for the gold medal on pole vault, ranked 14th and is out of the competition, which is pretty much Isinbayeva's now.

Holy shit Brazil what the fuck? All of our favorites are putting up the most embarrassing show possible and most of them didn't even GET A BRONZE MEDAL.
This is shameful, to SAY THE FUCKING LEAST.

They had to be talking about Jessica Ennis then. Cause she literally is streets ahead right now.

If that quote really is there then I will love her more.

Australia predicted 40 Medals total. How totally underwhelming.

Dan Harmon was making fun of a British guy who said it on Twitter, but didn't think to look it up, as if he had he would have found it's a commonly used phrase. So it's not hugely surprising if it's used by a British commentator. One of the weaker parts of Community for that reason imo.

I did not know that, never heard it irl besides the incident above I mentioned. Still be awesome to hear it on tv.

Tonight should be great. I really liked seeing Chambers get a good time in the heats, seems like a decent man and as Michael Johnson said at least he owned up to what he did, unlike Gatlin. It'd be nice for him to prove he can do it without the drugs, as it was his trainer who pushed him in that direction anyway.

I still don't like Chambers much. As soon as they get caught 'doping up', I think it should be a lifetime ban myself. Fair play to him if he's doing it all now clean, and what a run it was earlier btw, but I don't agree with that system.

Maybe its more a London thing? Or maybe I have heard it before Community and just didn't pay attention then. Still love it.

I think it's fair if they are banned for the next olympics or so (and face constant tests over that period). That's effectively 7 years of their usually very short career taken from them.

Thats actually a good idea really. Of course there are championships and such but the athletes are all aiming for the Olympics game. Deny them that for drug use and you think it should cut down the amount of people who do it.

I suppose there is a chance they could still be benefiting from previous doping at that point though, particularly if used in development during younger years. I think that should be left to some sort of qualified committee to decide though.

I honestly don't even know how it affects the body and for how long, I just personally find an issue with cheating the field. I'm a big 'Team GB' supporter but I won't cheer on cheats just because they're competing under our colours still.

This is horrible. Kinda hate the BBC for insisting to interview people mere seconds after they've just lost.

Team Germany ants 50 medals. It's going to be very difficult, since the swimmers didn't get ANY MEDAL whatsoever. Oh, Britta Steffen can get a medal on 50m freestyle, but I think she won't get one. Not because she's too bad, but because the others are just better than her now.

It's really difficult. I know that my dad was prescribed steroids as a child for a lung condition and it influenced his development so that he has broad shoulders etc. But in retrospect should that mean he should be banned from international competitions? Would seem unfair, but I suppose fairness isn't necessarily in the spirit of the Olympics.

I would guess that they have a very straight black and white line if you're currently doping up with an automatical ban. Seeing as they'll allow athletes back though once they've served their bans then I assume its not too late for your dad to join up with his own history of steroid use. Is he any good at running?

WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM IF MY PROPOSAL FOR A ROIDLYMPICS WAS ACCEPTED. If an athlete was caught doping they could just enter that contest instead. Easy.

The greatest spectacle on earth they'll call it. They would put my thigh size to shame.

The BBC player isn't working for me at the moment, but I found this one very difficult to watch.

"Is this the end for you?"

Ugh. The BBC are right cunts sometimes.

Very hard to watch indeed.

Yeah, I figured "streets ahead" was a real saying, otherwise it wouldn't have been used, but you don't hear it here in Canada much. One of my favourite things about watching the Olympics on the BBC this year is the adorable accents and turns of phrase used by the commentators.

On the other topic of discussion here, I've been an advocate of a gigantic mutant steroid league for a long time now. I also have a solution to the recent "controversy" of the beach volleyball uniforms, which is to have all athletes, male and female, in all events, compete fully nude. Obviously there would be exceptions for things like weight belts or those archery chest guards, but apart from that, nude-lympics.

I'm surprised I didn't stumble upon this thread earlier, oh wait, I haven't been on the forums in a couple of days, but you'd think I would have still seen it before. The best part of the Olympics is probably when the torch is lighted. It's what stands out most for me for the Olympics every year. A pity I don't seem to remember 2004 at all, but at least I can remember 2008 and this year. I have so far watched about two hours in total of the Olympics this year.

You're a little late to the party Elfer. The Nude Olympics have been held for 27 years already.

Yeah - but the contestants competing in the Nudist Olympics you linked us to are all old, fat and gross.

Not like the lithe, young bodies you see at the Olympics.

And to require Olympians to compete in the nude would simply be a returning to the roots of the ancient Olympic games, in which (scholars believe) all athletes competed in the nude.

Of course, to return to such roots would require the barring of all women from the games so...

The end of the women's pursuit was brilliant (and wow over their achievements - 6 world records in 6 races) - Paul McCartney in the audience and they played Hey Jude out over the PA after the national anthem, haha.

I did. There was a guy who always whistled, when he was breathing out. It was annoying, but not as ridiculous as walking.

Also: Lilli Schwarzkopf (Heptathlon) gets disqualified. For what? Seems as if the judges wanted to disqualify another athlete instead. WTF?
