I think that would just make the medal tally more competitive, which is the wrong approach. This. People tend to forget that, although the Olympics is somewhat of a competition, it's more about your own personal performance against other nation's best. I enjoy watching the sports and America winning gold in something, but I moreso enjoy the determined look on the players' face as they are about to test their abilities against other countries opponents and the delighted look on the players' face when they win.
