Does someone know a good site where I can get some good FL samples, like cymbal crashes and vocal samples? I've only found very few, and the samples weren't even that good, so where can I get some good ones?

Vengeance sample packs always contain some good quality samples, however they also contain vocals and loops which you shouldn't use here.

Is it due to some copyright things?

Yep. Actually we aren't allowed to use Vengeance samples at all, but because you can't tell when a kick sample came from a sample pack that was royalty-free or not (Vengeance is not royalty-free) you're allowed to use those 'one-shot' samples. However, vocals, loops and sometimes FX samples are easier to backtrace and therefore you shouldn't use them.

Wait, we're only allowed to use royalty free stuff here? What about people who actually buy the samples they use?

It depends. There's a difference between "royalty-free" and "licensing." When you "buy" samples, you don't actually own them; you've purchased a license (in other words, you give the producer some money, and they give you the right to use their samples).

Royalty-free means that you can use the samples without further payment. Most sample packs you buy are like this.

Legally, if you are using non-royalty-free samples, then you have to pay a fee every time someone listens to or downloads any track that you've uploaded that uses one or more of those samples.

So is it legal to use royalty-free samples without paying them?

if you obtained the samples legally, then sure. there's a whole bunch of royalty-free samples out there which are free for you to download.

samples under a creative commons license are also fine as long as you credit the original author. have a poke around http://www.freesound.org/

if your samples are royalty-free, but you downloaded them illegally (a pirated copy of a commercial product), don't upload your work here.

How can you tell if a royalty-free sample download link is legal or not?

If it's free, but it's supposed to cost money, it's illegal. If it's free, and it's supposed to be free, it's legal.

And how can you tell if it's supposed to be free or not? lol

It should say on the website; if there's a link to a free download, it will usually have licensing terms written beneath it.
