How to create this sound? May. 20th, 2012 @ 01:29 PM Reply

The plucky lead in this one, it sounds really nice:

Just asking, how would this sound be created?

With 3xOsc, you'd come pretty close with a combination of both sawtooth and rounded saw + lowpass filter + minimum hold and decay, but with some sustain and release + delay + reverb. However, for as far as I can hear this was made in a more complex VST that offers more waveshapes for the oscillators.

You can make this in z3ta+ vst.
I think there is a preset that sounds very similar to the sound you want to make.
With a little tweaking you can come pretty close.
I can do it for you if you want, and I'll play those same chords from that song.

Yeah that's true, it's the 'Chords of life' preset in bank C in z3ta+, but I didn't want to tell him so he could try to make his own. Using presets all the time won't get you any further.

Indeed, but one can learn more easily not from scratch but from reverse-engineering an existing sound that they like. Of course it's usually better if people learn to make their own sounds, but it's out of our hands... you just have to BELIEVE! :p

ZynAddSubFX can do this easily. It even has a preset that produces exactly this sound. Note however that Zyn is not a very easy synth to use (but it's *very* powerful if you learn how to use it.)

A VST version can be found here:

Well, you can't know everything in the beggining.
Like NickPerrin said, reverse engineering can sometimes be very useful for you to find out how some synths are created.

Indeed, it is powerful. And if you know how Additive or Subtractive Synthesis works, it's rather easy to use. It's just lots of windows you have open sometimes.

How would you make that sound not on the internet or with software?

wouldn't it be some sort of synth.
