Nah it cost $20 on steam alone, and $30 for Combined Ops. You're probably better off getting combined off, you get better textures and less bugs.
One does not simply find a server that works and doesn't glitch or lag out

I played for awhile today no problems, minimal lag. So I found a weird glitch, although haven't tried to replicate it, but if you have a broken leg and climb the ladder on a hospital building you get stuck to the top ledge sideways. I did this trying to find morphine and once i injected myself it threw me off the building breaking my legs again lol. I managed to survive before bleeding out.
Grabbed this video right before I fell. Too bad I quit before I fell
Once I Upgrade my comp I am rocking the shit out of this, and going to be the ultimate survivor

It's certainly realistic, aside from lag and weird animations.
Now if only it were fun...

Have you even played it? It's pretty fun

I spent the first hour and a half trying to find my friend, then we killed a cow. We made a campfire and we cooked some meat. We went to Churno and we got killed by other players. Then we spend another half hour finding eachother.
I found a bus once. I hit a sign and it exploded, and I died by zombies.
From what I've seen, that seems to be the general experience. I guess I'm just not a fan of realistic games, since I play games to get away from reality in the first place.

It sounds like it would be really fun, but do the zombies kick your ass? If the zombies aren't somewhat a challenge to kill like they are in Dead Island then it won't be very fun. It sounds like a really good game though, and closer to my idea of a perfect zombie game than most others.

theyre fast and you have to be stealthy because if you aggro a shitload you're screwed. well, at the beginning anyway, since you spawn without a weapon. theyre easy to kill but the problem is that when you get hit you bleed out indefinitely. you have to bandage yourself or you die. if you keep getting hit and losing blood you'll eventually need a blood transfusion.

Oh fair enough, for some reason I thought you were writing off the game before even trying it. Yeah these things happen and it can be a bummer. Probably the worst thing is trying to find a friend after spawning when you don't know the map well. It is possible to keep respawning til you both start really close.
Also stay out of Cherno and Elektro if you don't want to get shot at ;)
Had a typical town run today that turned sour very quickly. I was in Polana I belive doing a quick loot search and noticed there was a grocery store. Checked the front and got some food, walk into the back room of the store and promptly get shot twice. So I'm just laying there bleeding out with a broken leg thinking I'm screwed. I fire the last two shots from my M1911 at the guy and he alt+F4's.
I don't get the point of doing that when he obviously had the upper hand on me. My aiming was off because I was stuck laying on the floor. He could have taken me out easier. Oh well, healed myself up and got out of there. I did end up getting a mag for my newly acquired M16.
I've also noticed with the new patch there is an abundance of animals around. My pack is now filled with cooked meat, so I'm set on blood for awhile. I also came across a dancing sheep.
My favorite part about the DayZ is, that epic and awesome moments can happen totally unscripted. I was in the wilderness at night, and I found some road flares in the middle of a field. As I silently walked closer, I heard gunshots. I got down, but then I realized they weren't directed at me. I got up with my ak74, and I saw that a very armed group of survivors were closing in on a smaller group in the middle of the field. I stood up and gunned down the attackers without them knowing where I was. When the fight was over, I walked towards the other group. One of them started shooting at me, but I quickly said "friendly, i was helping u guys", and he stopped. We got together and looted the bodies and then divided the supplies and weapons. I got up and saluted, and they both saluted back. And then I was off and we were going our separate ways.

I like DayZ, but I would like it if it was independent of Arma 2. I know the developer works for Arma, but it seems kind of silly buying $60 worth of things just to enjoy a mod, especially when in "alpha". I don't really have cash to throw around like that, so I hope the cost of Arma 2 + Expansion goes down a bit to at least justify the cost for me.

I like the game and it is really fun to play but it is far from perfect, many glitches and lots of things i would change. I mostly blame the arma engine.

Really you only need $20-30 and then you are getting two full games along with the mod. Although, I understand Arma 2 is a bit of a niche game. I have a feeling there will be a steam sale soon, with the summer sales coming up/
Meh i'm burned out on zombies. They're kinda lame now

I know the price is a bargain for a game and expansion, but the fact that I will just ignore both of them to play a mod which is still in development is just weird to me. The sales don't really help, the point is that I wont just buy two games, cheap or not, to enjoy a mod.
DayZ wasnt really my niche anyway.

Made another stupid video. I went around spamming Sonic R over direct comm in elektro
So it seems like there's only two kinds of places: in this game vast tracks of empty space with no supplies (just random decorative buildings and stuffs that tease you with their lack of interactivity) and no zombies, and places packed with supplies but are unreachable because of the zombies.
For some reason I've never spawned with a gun (just a flashlight that doesn't work and the character's thumb clips through the switch making the model really ugly) so I have literally no way of fighting the zombies. I once managed to survive for about 30 minutes, only to be magically spotted by a zombie 500 yards away even though I was lying prone in the middle of the fucking grass. A single zombie. I mashed the "C" key but since my character gets up at the speed of Alzheimers and the zombies run at the speed of light I wasn't even able to start running before the zombie got to me. It hit me on the head and knocked me down, I tried to get up again but it kept me down and after the next hit I was dead.
Still haven't seen a gun, and I've only seen any sort of supplies once: one fucking can of Pork and Beans. Unless you count a useless piece of scrap metal.
I guess it could be enjoyable if you really got into it but for now I'm just lamenting the fact that I spent $60 and waited through hours of loading for something that I don't enjoy. The Arma engine is... interesting. Hurts my eyes and shit.
I'll stop complaining now.

Why did you spend $60 on it? You coulda gotten it for $30 normally.
The game is pretty broken right now. If you are an impatient person this game is not for you. I am telling you that right now. If you try to play this like COD you will die.
I AM THREAD KILLER!

Oops not $60, but close to $50. I paid with $50 gift card and there was around $2 left when I was done.
None of my friends have/want DayZ and I don't trust anyone in game. Anyone wanna play? Skype is preferred.
So I got the Arma II trial and it ran at about 60fps on Low settings. I bought the game during the summer sales on Steam and finally downloaded it today because last month my download limit was over. So I got Day Z and shit, but now on Very Low settings it runs at about 4fps. Four fucking frames. So there goes $20 and half of my bandwidth for the month used up in one day. 15 fucking GB.
Is there a solution to this?
Well I found a way to make it slight better, but now it's at like 12fps and it isn't worth the headache to play. I think by the time I get a gaming PC to run this it won't be very popular anymore.

Day Z really makes the fps drop compared the vanilla Arma 2 for whatever reason. I usually get pretty bad fps around the bigger cities and decent fps everywhere else (20-30fps) on my laptop. You can try doing some .ini tweaking, it helped me gain a small boost in overall fps: guide

Ohh and I forgot to mention stuff like drawdistance and ground detail are set server side so changing those won't do much. I believe the default drawdistance is around 1500
So guys, have you heard that they're developing a DayZ clone called "The War Z"?
Seems like it has all stuff DayZ is missing.
cities
no bugs

It is probably the best mod I have ever played so far, beside project reality.
I hate people who lurk and snipe spawners at the coast. Fuck sake, can't those jerks just wait until newcomers get a gun? I went to the far north once. Be a bandit once and went around to kill straggler for stuff until I got killed a few months ago after stupidly shot a rifle in a field that has a dozen of zombies. :-P
