You know it's kind of funny now that America is no longer the most obese nation on the planet, that honor belongs to Mexico, and yet no one seems to notice this.

Besides, if childhood obesity is considered an epidemic now, then stupidity must be a global pandemic right about now.

So I guess Shorewood, Ilinois is a pretty fit town?

Anyway, I see plenty of overweight/obese children, but I guess not nearly as many as fat adults. I guess people get a lot fatter after their late teens or 20s or 30s. When they're young they're usually average weight, but then their bodies expand a lot more and then they're fat.

70% of the US is overweight, including obese.

I love seeing fatass families of landwhales tottering about.

There are fat people everywhere in this country, even in the town I go to school which is a super hippy-haven organic, non-GMO, new-agey fitness mecca.

Haha you bumped a fifteen month old thread

There are plenty of fat babies in the south, which I've seen for myself last time I went to visit.

This right here. OP lives in Illinois. Head down to the deep South. Areas like Georgia (outside of Atlanta in particular), Tennessee (Chattanooga Metropolitan Area) and Florida (just go to Daytona Beach and see what I mean). These areas are packed to the brim with chubby children.

Illinois is 15.8% obese children, compared to 16.4% obese children in Georgia, and 20.0% obese children in Tennessee. Not a real large difference.

You brought up state-wide statistics. I brought up very particular areas of each state, primarily because those are lower-income areas and areas I have lived in my life.

I bring up those areas for a reason, because they are generally lower-income regions.
Reason for this? Poor people have a harder time eating healthier, because generally healthier food is quite expensive. Sure people could eat less, but if they had that mentality, well, I reckon they wouldn't be too poor now would they?

I guess I could agree with that, but obesity pretty much affects everywhere in the country and not just a certain metropolitan area. Yeah, I would agree that most of the obese children I've known are poor, and rarely have I met a rich kid that was very fat. However, I've known plenty of rich fat people, too.

It is true that a lot of healthy food might be more expensive than just going to Burger King or KFC and getting some cheap and quick instead.

Even outside the realm of fast food.

As a kid who grew up on food stamps on-and-off. I can tell you one thing, when you're out shopping for food, you're sure as shit not looking to buy leafy greens and generally fresher, more healthy food.

Why? Because they go bad, and you're looking to make $200 government dollars stretch out over the course of a month. So you can't afford to buy shit that isn't going to last long (also, it's marginally more expensive).

So, what do you go for? Lots of Frozen/Preserved foods. Most Frozen Food is packed with so much god damn Sodium it'll make your eyes shrivel up from dehyradtion and also not a whole lot of frozen stuff is very healthy..

Sure, there are healthy preserved options. Why eat a Hot Pocket when you can eat a Tuna Sandwich? Bread is cheap and Tuna takes forever to go bad.

Eh..

Also, I've never seen someone on Food Stamps in my entire fucking life not spend the shit on MOUNTAINS of Soda/Potato Chips/and Cookies somewhere in the mix. Why? Shit is **relatively** cheap..and if it's not, AT LEAST IT TASTE GOOD YALL!

I have a friend on food stamps and because she's Navajo and has children she gets like $500 a month and buys nothing but top-of-the-line organic food and makes delicious, hearty home cooked meals every night.

But that's a special case.

Most of my poor friends buy $1 Totino's party pizzas and Hot Pockets. Or pasta. Pasta is cost-effective.

Soda, potato chips, and cookies are definitely tasty indeed.

Can't blame people who live off welfare/food stamps would like to buy those with their food stamp money.

Here in Massachusetts there aren't actually a lot of fat people. There's only like one obese person in town (It's not me, so don't even go there).

Light amounts of sweets I can tolerate.
But when I see some fat redneck bitch with an EBT card buying 3 cases of 24-pack Sodas, it makes my blood pressure rise knowing that my tax dollars are going to this bitch to be lazy and not give a shit about what she eats.

Massachusetts is 57% overweight and obese. That isn't "not a lot." The 57% also includes 20.9% of people whom which are obese. That's 1 out of 5 obese people.

I'm speaking in terms of personal experience. Keep in mind I don't live in a big city so it's not like people are really lazy of boarish around here.

Uh, actually people in big cities are generally slightly more fit than those who live in the suburbs. I don't know about rural small towns though. It depends on the major city, but people in big cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, DC walk a lot because they don't have or need cars. Everything is very convenient, so they just everywhere. They may use the subway and buses, but they also walk a lot to and from the bus stations or train stations from their homes. This article explains that people in NYC are skinnier than those in the suburbs.

Whenever I go to the nearest big city to me, the people there are far more fit than the people in my suburban community. People in the suburbs always have a car so they rely on that to get everywhere.

If you were around when Halo 1 came out, you know that was a main reason or THE reason a lot of people got an Xbox.

That said, if you use Arnold Schwarzenegger's BMI as the standard, he qualifies as obese.

Also, these statistics are invariably leaving out a portion of the populace. My weight is not a matter of public record and nobody's ever asked me about it in any kind of census.

That also being said, the statistics are still approximately accurate and nonetheless useful.

LOL. No, I don't think he does.

Sure, most Asians are not overweight, but I think that's really just a big fat stereotype. I see overweight Asian people all the time. I have a Chinese uncle who is fairly heavy-set, with his height around 6 feet and weighing over 200 pounds. Definitely not fit at all.

Some Asian people are really big and fat.
