Any fixed weekend date is good for me.
I'll try my best to plan for it.
the stampede is from july 6-15, it will take up 2 weekends, the first and second weekend of the month
we can all either meet up on the first weekend,
during the week if available
or durring the second weekend nearing the ending of the show
the finals happen of sunday where all the top coyboys will be competing for the trophy... meaning that is the 14 and 15 that everything big and shiny happens at the rodeo
(did you know that a few years back there were casualties at the rodeo because of terrible accidents? thats how hard this thing is up/over/down here)
the date that you should plan to be here is friday the 13 and be screwing around in the city for the weekend
if you have questions on where to stay then see below:
your car: cheep... very cheep... maybe not comfy but cheep... i can show you where to shower at a ymca or something like that ... kinda grose dude :P
for a hotel then book this shit up fast!!
Travelodge Calgary SouthâEUZ
7012 Macleod Trail Southeast
Calgary, AB T2H 0L3
(403) 253-1111 stones throw away from both the c-train and Chinook mall where you can shop or get all over town. prices from probably 90-140 a night maybe want to find a different newgrounder and share a room
they also have free breakfast so you get a free meal...
free food
close to c-train
close to major mall
about 130 ish a night
wireless internet access
has a pool i think
IF you go to google and type in calgary hotels and follow what i have shown you here... i have outlined the c-train line THAT GOES TO the stampede's doorstep
SO that means that you are indeed able to go to any kind of hotel you want, and parking at a c-train station is free BUT remember that on those dates you will be arguing with about 1.2 times the number of cars that can parking at the c-train parking stations because they dont want to park downtown at the 20$ for a spot, spot
here is a list of the c-train locations
http://www.calgarytransit.com/html/ctrain_stations.html
i suggested the hotel above because the location of the hotel is close to to a major mall (Chinook) AND a c-train platform making it ideal for you
(there is also a bowling ally below the mall ... who knows.. drunk bowling might be fun)

If everybody is ok with that, then let's go for it.

So Sabtastic told me that the 13th would be fine for her. How about everyone else?

Other than superstition, I don't see any real problems.
Will the weather hold?

It's been pretty warm for the past 2 weeks. It was also fairly warm last year. Hopefully, it will stay the same.
"I need a katana to slice a banana"
Weather that you can expect during the 13-15 is highly sunny and warm weather
a coyboy hat is all the fashion you need as temperatures have in the last 5 years range from:
18c-25c
20c-28c
7c-17c it rained almost all week that year that's when the casualties happenend for the horses... breaking their legs in the mud and what not and man was it dirty
26c-32c
20c-25c
Sunscreen is a somewhat rare thing but is worn by a few people, if you wear jeans then prepare to smell by half day
It gets hot there is sweet and sticky things everywhere, it is very uncommon for a breeze and you can't really walk well in jeans that stick to your leg... don't wear skinny jeans to this... you will hate your self
Although jeans are not advised it is also the style that 95% of everyone that goes to the rodeo wears
A coyboy hat ranges from 10-40%
During the durration of the stampede in calgary it is completely acceptable to wear a cowboy hat everywhere and have fun
the actual size of the stampede grounds is roughly:
2.5football fields long for the strip
2 football fields for the horse tracks and running grounds
4 football fields for the building event centers
2 football fields for the casino
2 fields for the arts shows and what not
Expect that if you are intent on seeing everything you will be walking a good 6km a day... sometimes with food in hand or prize tickets in your pocket or a stuffed animal on your back
we charge for water bottles and its hard to find a water fountain

There's a pretty big chance that we're gonna lose a few people to the SanDiego Comic Con - falls on the same weekend.

Commie Con is not even a real NG meet.
Where's the drinking and karaoke, huh?!?
I also vote on the 13th!
Even though I'm still not 100% sure to be there...

I'm pretty sure Tox knows a place where we can do this. I haven't really been out drinking in this city yet :\

I was still referring to the Comic Con.
But it would be nice to have some real meetup activities too.

i do have a question though ...
i can provide the time and transport all over the city, i can bring to you near anywhere..
but what is the line..
would it be a day at a carnival, then a bar and drinks in the evening (or something else)
maybe the next day a raft down the river in a tube and enjoy the sun
and the third day to simply pig out at a all you can eat restaurant and then more drinks with a heavy side of gambling at a indian casino...
i dont know.. and to be honest i dont know what to put down on the table for everyone...
help?

If anybody in Alberta wants to carpool, I've got room for 2!
You just need to worry about giving me the heads up and getting to my end of the city (Northern Edmonton) in the first place.
I will be leaving very early on the 13th, and coming back home early in the am on the 14th.
My only real big concern is accommodation.
Like, where is the majority of users staying?
I should probably ask Luis where he's staying.

Well I'm starting my move to Calgary tomorrow. Trying to get a job at a bar so I most likely won't be out during the festivities but I'll post where I'm working so you chumps and chumpettes can come visit for some beers.

I'm interested, as I live on that end of the city as well. We should trade some information via PM so we can hammer out details.
