People like knowing where they came from, but I know, some people take it a little too far.

Someone I know thinks shes not deserving of certain titles because shes not part of some "warrior people," she thinks it would be cool if she was half viking or something. Damn it it's not who your dead ancestors are, it's YOU that matters!

It might be cool to find out about my ancestors, but just because I'm Mexican and my ancestor might of been Spanish doesn't mean I'm going to label my self Spanish, honestly i don't care if i am Mexican, i make fun of Mexicans and other race equally.

I'm full blooded Portuguese (small fucking world). My Father's family is from the Gondomar area near Porto, my Mother's family somewhere in the Azores (even smaller world), she doesn't remember where. I'm 5th generation American, my sisters and I were the last of the "pure bloods" as we have all had children with non Portuguese. I spoke the language fluently when I was young until my Mother stopped teaching me. I can still understand a bit of the language. Well, it matters to me because I'm 45% Irish, and that means my skin tends to fry under the sun. I'm essentially a vampire if I'm out for more than 30 minutes w/o sunscreen. I have two shades of skin: Pasty white, and sun-burnt. Shit sucks, bro.

I kind of feel the same way. It's a big thing to some people because racial/cultural bias still exists.

I want to find out more about my African lineage- I don't make being black a big deal. I only mention it in issues having to do with race.

Most people in the US are Caucasian. Why would I care about that, and how would this help me?

Ancestry is important to some people because they make a big deal about culture. I might want to find out about my African lineage if I had the time and money for a DNA test.

I am part Sudanese, according to my mother and grandmother. I would like to find out what black African tribe in Sudan I descended from.

Because Humanity is the story telling species.

Behind every person is a family upbringing, social norms and a culture.

A persons ethnicity, like it or not, makes up an important part of who that person is and that persons STORY.

History is interesting. It's nice to know who your grandparents were, what your ancestors struggled through. It's nice to compare your life to theirs, appreciate their story.

People who say "YOU SHDNT BE PROUD OF YOUR ANCESTRY YOU RACIST" are dickheads. You don't have to have had a hand in what someone did to be proud of them.

It's fucking dumb people who do shit like that, that give everyone a bad name. Knowing your previous heritage, and being proud you at one point are connected to whatever event or other historical person/people is not a bad thing. But acting like you -were there- or that kinda shit, or you are better than others because of it is what sucks.

People want to find out if they can get money from finding out about their lineage/ancestry. They also want what they know about their lineage to make history.
