I was searching for free sound effects for a little while, but what I think could work best is Microsoft clip art. They have a wide variety of sound effects, stings, loops and more. They are all free! They come in WAV or MIDI format, but all the sound effects are WAV, so you should have no problem using those with whatever program you are working in.

If you find any good ones on your own, maybe post them, it could be helpful to others.

Take a look at Freesounds (dot) org. Be sure to look for the copyright status for any sound that you want to use, but there are plenty that you're free to use without giving credit to.

There's one site that's donation based called Affordable Audio 4 Everyone. Just add a .com and you're there or google it. Hope that helps.
