Recommended PSP games? 2012-04-19 12:54:24 Reply

Hey NG, I've been in the market of expanding my PSP game collection, and need suggestions.
A list of the game and a reason why you recommend it would be nice, here's an example.

Gran Theft Auto Vice City Stories: Basically Gta on the go, carjacking, gunfights, car chases, the usual gta stuff, plus an
awesome soundtrack composed of licensed music from the 80's. Amazing game.

If you could do this it would really help me out, because I've been dying for some new games to play, and I just can't seem to find any that would be of my interests. Thanks NG

I've been trying to pimp out my PSP collection recently as well.

Like Travis already pointed out, Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core is meant to be good. My copy arrived a couple days ago and I've played it for about two hours so far. I'm not really far enough in to give a full opinion, but it's not your typical turn based combat. It does kinda just feel like I'm mashing the X button in battles a lot, but I suppose it wont be so easy later in the game... I hope.

Also picked up a JRPG called Popolocrios. Still not gotten around to playing this yet, but it's meant to be quite good. It has quite a nice art style and anime cut scenes, so it's pretty enough to look at. From what I've heard it's also a pretty good game.

There's a few other games I've been looking at, but they're quite expensive in the UK. Breath of Fire III, Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. Again, all JRPGs and those all happen to be ports of older games. I've been told that First Departure might be hard to get into because it does feel old, but they look like interesting games.

I'll try to keep you updated if I get any cool PSP titles in the near future.

I haven't actually played it, but Valkyria Chronicles 2 is a PSP exclusive, I think. The first one on the PS3 was awesome.

I would hesitate on The 3rd Birthday because the story sucks as well as the VAs, but I hear it's got decent gameplay.

Funny thing is, I already have the first two games on that list, and yes they are both awesome, I've put about 18 hours into Crisis Core, (I've beaten it) and I have to say it is one fantastic game. Sadly, I dont have the second FF Dissidia with all the extra characters and such, but the game is also quite fun, and I remember seeing the 3rd birthday last time I was at Gamestop looking at the PSP games. But I'll be sure to try and check it out next time I go. Thanks!

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is possibly the best PSP game.
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Ive heard that Peace Walker and Chains of Olympus are really good games, I already have Tekken 6, which is basically the same thing but with slightly better graphics and more characters, I've played them both, and I know Dark Resurrection has a lot more in terms of content than Tekken 6, but I just like the larger character roster. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Peace Walker was enjoyable. Other than this, absolutely none.

Personally, my personal recommendations would be Persona 1, 2, and 3. If you enjoy turn-based JRPGs with anime influences (I mention that because they go fucking all-out with the anime influences after Persona 2), you'll definitely enjoy them.

I've heard good things about these games and I've been wanting to check them out, but again, they cost a fortune in the UK. We don't even have the first one. I think that was only released on PSN here. To get a copy of Persona 1 & 2 on PSP here, it's probably going to cost about £100 from what I've seen. That's about $160.

The alternative would be to import them from the US since PSP games aren't region locked, but that's not something I've done before. Probably takes ages for them to arrive and I bet I'd get landed with customs fees.

LocoRoco is one you should serious consider picking up. The graphics and the art direction are really interesting and it is a perfect game for playing on the go for quick burst, or for pouring hours into trying to collect all the objects and secrets. You've never played anything like it.

Crush. It's a puzzler, in which you change the world from 2D to 3D, and vice-versa to collect Danny's lost marbles. It's one of my favourite games ever. And since I've got a pretty large collection of games, that's saying something. Although I do say that more than I should, but my point still stands.

Tales of the world radiant mythology is a solid pickup for about $20

Its not up to the same standards as other games in the tales of series but its still pretty good for its value.

I've never even touched a PSP, but if I had one, the first games I'd get would probably be Powerstone 1 and 2, Locoroco, and Patapon. and maybe that Medievil game, because I loved Medievil 1 and 2.

Manhunt 2 was an incredible PSP game in my opinion.

Along with Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and uh.. Fight Night Round 3. It's actually pretty good, I like it more than PunchOut.

I've played Locoroco and Patapon, I likes Locoroco alot more, Patapon really wasn't all that fun for me. But I'll be sure to check out Powerstone 1-2, and is there any specific name for this Medievil game? Btw, all of you thank you for all these suggestions, because from what I've researched about the games you've listed, they all look pretty fucking awesome.

Apparently, it's called Medievil: Resurrection. It seems most of the fans hate this game, though, so nevermind.

Crisis CCOre FF7 was the bomb! The ending was both amazing and sad.

I have played Dissidia. It was awesome alright.

If im not mistaken FFIV is a super revamped version of the old game with a whole bunch of added extras and bonuses?

Crisis Core is a very good reason to own a PSP by itself. Amazing game, and has a ton of endgame content (cough10millionHPoptionalbosscough).
If you're gonna get Dissidia, just go and get Duodecium 012. More characters, somewhat better combat (you could say that the assist system broke the game in half, but w/e) and more stages and music. Not to mention it has the FIRST GAME AS THE SECOND STORY MODE.
God of War has already been mentioned.
There's also Kingdom hearts: Birth By Sleep. Haven't played it, but only heard good things about it.

I recommend you the game Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. It's sometimes the best game ever or sometimes it's frustrating.
But it's only good if you want some challenges.
