:That was a funny one.
Mass Effect is not a FPS (First person shooter), it is a TPSSDRPG (third person shooter sim date role playing game).
Otherwise, TimeSplitters 2 is without a doubt TEH BEST FPS EVAR!!!
Because monkeys and bricks, that's why.
It's Klobberin' Time!
Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II. Those games are brilliant, I just wish they'd make a third one.

You look nice today.
This guy brutally sodomizes me.
Man do I love cereal. If you're cool you'll add me on Steam.
Battlefront 1, Battlefield 3, Halo 3. Thats basically it. Stalker SoC kind of. Thats really it though. If i had to pick one, Halo 3 for sure. That game made my life complete. I played it waaaaay to much.

Counter strike source, Half life (series), Halo 2
The first 2 MWs (even though MW1's been hacked to shit), BFBC2, the very first Halo, Republic Commando, the whole Jedi Knight series, and finally Star Wars Battlefront 2, the game that defined my childhood.
Also, Mass Effect is not an FPS, it's a hybrid between a TPS and an RPG.

Half Life 2, for me anyways. While it may not technically be the GREATEST fps EVER, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I played it at a time when I had truly lost interest and hope in the video games, and half life 2 brought it back. It's also pretty fuckin cool.

Farcry 2 was good.
Crysis was good.
FEAR was good.
Orange Box was good.
Bad Company 2 was good.
Counter Strike is good.
Doom 3 was good.
Deus Ex is good.
Theif 2 is good.
But I much enjoy Killing Floor the best.
It's got to be the original Doom, the game that started the FPS genre, followed closely by Modern Warfare 1 and 2, the Half-Life series and surprisingly enough, Bulletstorm.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
mass effect first person shooter

If we are going for more traditional shooters then my favorite series is the Battlefield series. I just like the fact that with all the destruction and the vehicles that the online matches feel like an actual war with shit always being blown up all around you.
Girls just wanna have fun.
Lots of my favourites have been mentioned, and showing how little I play FPS's now a lot of them are the older games mentioned.
Half Life (I've only ever played the first game, but I am confident that it stands up to the sequals)
Deus Ex (one of my favourite games ever)
Doom 2 (probably the single game I have played through the most)
Goldeneye (still the definitive multiplayer FPS experience for me, though Timesplitters 2 was close)
I could also throw the Metroid Prime games in, but I don't really feel like they are true FPS games.

this, and the Star Wars Battlefront series.
Definitely the Halo series, but I also love Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was really underrated.

my favourite online fps game, and what i would consider to be the best, is counter strike 1.6
my favourite offline? fps game would be hard to pinpoint because there are many which are very good. i guess a list would have to suffice:
-half life 2
-deus ex
-perfect dark

Uh no? Battlefront was one of the most popular series of its day and definitely the most popular star wars series, the problem though was that Pandemic went bankrupt and Lucas Arts hasn't found a reliable company to make the 3rd yet (which if Haze had done well wouldn't be the case).

How to review like your opinion matters
Dunno if they're the "best" FPS out there but the following are certainly some of my favourite FPS games.
. Golden Eye 007 to N64
. Halo 1-3 (haven't played the other games in the series)
. Star wars Battlefront 2 (well there is setting for first person)
. Bulletstorm
. Duke Nukem 3D
Heads or tails?
For best recent game, my vote goes to Tribes: Ascend. I'm also a big fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
Counter Strike 1.6
Battlefield 3
Farcry 2
Battlefield and Battlefront I & II. By a landslide.
Battlefield 3 is awesome. Its one of the only multiplayer games thats still had me addicted after more than 3 months of owning it. SWB2 as well, though I've only played it in third person. Thief 3: Deadly Shadows was pretty fun too.
Wait, isn't Battlefronts a third person shooter? Although, it's been awhile, maybe there is a first person mode.

Yeah, there is a first person mode, I had no idea until a few months ago when I played it at my friends house.
