Absolutely not. They were outside of the school's jurisdiction. Instead of being expelled they should have been arrested for vandalism and a possible hate crime depending on the state law.

I think it is the schools decision wether or not they want vandals in their school? They could just easily pin vandalism in the school to them later anyway or just take action then and not wait for it.

Hate Crimes are complete bullshit. If someone else spray paints something derogatory on a white person's house they would only get charged with vandalism but when a white guy even bumps into a black guy and gives him a bruise the white guy gets charged with hate crime.

I bought my house in late October but didn't get to actually move in until Mid December (paperwork and also the house needed some fixing up).
When I moved in, I didn't have anything (first house) so I didn't decorate for Christmas. Some neigbor kids noticed (and also I have a big nose) so they took chalk and drew a bunch of antisemitic shit all over my driveway and garage door. They even threw eggs at my garage door.
I don't know, I just washed it off and never gave it another thought. Kids will be kids I guess. They never gave me any more trouble.
When I was a teen, I did shitty things to people I didn't like... the more those people bitched, the more I harassed them. So when I grew up and it happened to me, I realized that if I threw a fit not only would I be over-reacting but it would probably just encourage them to give me more problems.
There's a fine line between a "real problem" and people being whinny little bitches that don't know how to handle themselves in the world. You can't cry every time something negative happens. This is life, not a Disney movie. Grow some fucking balls people... clean up the mess and move on, there are far worse things that could happen to you.
For starters, you could live in Africa... where instead of syrup... it would have been rape and a machete to your face.
