What's your genre? Apr. 10th, 2012 @ 09:34 PM Reply

Sup newgrounds? Just wanna take sort of a poll to see what kind of music people like the most, so that I can consider incorporating it into my style. It's not that I'm trying to be anything that I'm not, in fact I don't give a damn what anybody thinks of me, however I think that if I make music that is a little more appealing to the public, I'll get myself out there faster. You know what I'm saying? Even if you don't give a shit about what I just said, the question still stands: What is your favourite kind of music?

Newgrounds is not really a great representation of the mainstream taste of music.

I'm not sure. Whatever is needed for the project I'm working on, I suppose. Maybe "classical" with a dash of tech-something or other... mumble mumble.

Stuff that fits in the 128-130 BPM range (proghouse, electro, complextro and shit) and some dubstep.

The irony.

My genre is Jazzstep. I definitely feel that's where my style's headed right now, and it really resonates with the public.

This is why I come here. :3

In regards to the question, I pretty much like anything that works as music; my taste varies too much from month to month to really narrow it down.
However, I primarily make music that falls under one of two categories: if it's not some sub-genre of DnB, it's experimental fusion where there is no genre - or at least one that I've not been made aware of yet.

Whatever I'm in the mood for in any given moment

I mean I think some progressive rock/metal is great as in WHOA WHERE DID MY PANTS GO great, but I don't ALWAYS want to listen to it. And I love listening to electro but not when I want to do homework, or sleep

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been trying out different styles as well, and found that dubstep attracted the most viewers. I'm not really great at dubstep, but it's the one that attracts the most people, as far as I can see.

I can't put myself in a exact genre but most of my song are a mix of synths and orchestra. Another thing I don't think that if you do something thinking about what the people want it will sound good. There are thousand of artist that they didn't follow the mainstream and they are famous.

talent is talent no matter in what genre.

Miscellaneous and experimental. I'm not the type of composer who locks him/herself into some set of genres for lifetime. You have to reach out newer options in other to gain success in the musical industry.

Generally, classical is fading away everyday. Certainly, it won't vanish in very long time. However, it is useless to stick to it nowadays. Therefore you must get yourself off the falling old tower.

If within "classical" you're also talking about ALL orchestral music, you're plain wrong.

If you're composing for pleasure/hobby, there is no reason to abandon a style of music or mindset/genre that you like, classical included.

If you're planning a career as a classical composer (NOTE: this is different than a composer for media), then yes this might be true. At least, you'll need to get a job as a professor or something similar to supplement your income and allow your classical composition to continue.
