NYR 3-2 OTT (Series tied 3-3)
New York had to dig deep here, but got a good response after Chris Neil tipped a Sergei Gonchar slp shot past Lundqvist in the 1st. Goals from Derek Steppan, Brad Richards and Chris Kreider gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead, heading into the 3rd and only a Jason Spezza goal, kicked home inside the crease could pull Ottawa close in the dying seconds of the contest, much the the chagrin of John Tortarella and Henrik Lundqvist, who remonstrated with the officials.
Still, with everything said and done, the Zamboni will resurface the ice at Maddison Square Garden and the puck will drop tonight for game 7. Everything's on the line, who will skate off the ice heading into the second round? I have no idea, but it will be fun finding out.
Prediction : I've got a 50:50 chance of getting a point here...
PHX 4-0 CHI (PHX wins Series 4-2)
No overtime, no problem. After 5 straight games of heading into the extra period, Phoenix and Chicago set aside their differences and Mike Smith dominated, with some frankly ridiculous saves, to make a 39 save shutout, the first of his career.
Antoine Vermette led the teams in scoring for the series, with 4 goals and an assist, to double his goal tally for his career. The Coyotes have proven that they can outlast a quality team, with a good head coach. Even after being outshot 16-2 in the first, they came back and scored first, because of Smith and left with their fate in the second round, when Nashville come to town.
Prediction : PHX in 7. One point
