Sadly because they want everyone to speak one language which is the main language of english. Funny thing is later down the line there are jobs that pay you more if you can speak more then one language.

Learning another language isn't essential in the US like it is in other countries. Some countries are bordered by 5 or so countries each speaking different languages. Trading & other things make it essential to learn a neighbor's language. Canada speaks English and Mexico is Mexico. So whatever. I still think Americans should learn more than 1 language even if it's not necessary

I learned Spanish from working with Mexicans......they know a lot of neat words and phrases that you'll never hear in Spanish class.

Because America is the world's largest superpower.
Other countries need to speak English to communicate with Americans and Brits.
We aren't really in the shadow of another country that speaks a different language.
I reccomend learning another language, but unless you'll never need it you don't have to.

And america was founded by english speakers so that's why it's english.

Throughout much of America, there is a heavy emphasis on learning and speaking the English language, partly due to the fact that throughout America's existence, going back to the colonial days of Jamestown, Plymouth and and others, they primarily spoke English, and just so happens that future generations decided that English would be the de facto language of America.

Fast forward about 200 years or so, where the Latino population is rapidly increasing, now there is more emphasis in our schools on learning Spanish, and other languages in an attempt to accommodate ourselves to foreigners, in which some of them can't even speak a lick of English.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with anyone speaking a different tongue to whoever, or anyone taking a foreign language in schools or via Rosetta Stone, because America has always been a melting pot of cultures and languages, {even though we tend to have a pretty checkered history at times with other cultures.} but the problem lies in when immigrants come into our country and not at least make an attempt to speak English, because it's hard to bend over backwards for someone when you can't understand what the hell they're talking about.

Unless you're going to be working in different countries, then they're really is no incentive at the school level to learn a foreign language because chances are, you wouldn't be using it very much, if at all in your life. Not to mention that English is now becoming the de facto language in major businesses, diplomatic relations and whatnot, {either spoken word or via interpreter.} there is even less incentive to learn a different tongue when international dignitaries are speaking the same language as you or me.

I haven't for about a month already. I understand you don't like it but I haven't in quite a while, and I'm not saying that means I should do it often. But making this kind of topic which is a subject I'm interested about I thought it was necessary to bring an example that I can relate to personally.

Why does Spain learn Spanish? Why does France learn French?

America was founded by English-speaking people. The country was established in English.
