It feels like somewhere between after 1.7.3 and during 1.0.0 Minecraft just really fell in the shitter. For you, where did it go wrong?

Really? After 1.8ish, it seems the fun little indie game I bought on my birthday became some sloppy try hard knock off of Skyrim

man i personally lost interest the moment it became remotely popular because who wants to play a popular indie game amirite?
1.8 was when Minecraft lost it's charm to me. I still play it, just much less now that it isn't so fun. It seems that the new biomes and dull coloring of everything, shoddy finish, and un-Minecraft like additions kind of set it off track.
Jeb's making it better, though. Notch really fucked it over at it's 'release' but Jeb's fixing it up a tad.

I completely agree. Jeb's really been rekindling my love for Minecraft with these updates that are actually good.
I don't think they really fucked the game over at all. Sure, the official release was kind of disappointing due to the lack of real improvements and features, but nothing was added that made the game less fun to play.
Though I'd like it if they gave an option to disable the hunger meter. Even though they've made it so that it doesn't run out as fast as it did when it was first introduced, it's still sort of irritating to constantly have to get food in order to survive.
An option to disable Creepers would be great, too. Seriously, fuck Creepers.
I think the game is better than before (Especially since they reintroduced creative mode), but I just lost interest. I'm sure I'll play again in a few months when there are some updates to play through.

This is my view on the matter. I think Minecraft has changed since Beta but I still enjoy the game. In fact, I like the new blocks and I'm left wanting more. It's still a great game.
i wouldn't go as far to say that it sucks now, it's just that i don't really enjoy it as much as i used to.
the most fun i had with it would probably have been smp during beta 1.1 to 1.3, the golden era imo, but then it just kinda kept dragging on me finally until 1.8. 1.8 update is the exact moment that minecraft lost that feel for me. there was nothing wrong with it generally but it was like the final nail in the coffin, like this was practically what the finished game was going to look like and the realisation that all those expectations and all that shit notch promised was never going to happen.
best version ever is indev. trufax
Jeb is making it really better. But after all the bullshit I dealt with during 1.8 onward to release is just too damaging to my interest with the game to try to get back into it.
1.7.3 really was the pinnacle of Minecraft.

I really like how Jeb is actually fixing things, rather than piling bugs on top of the old ones.
I have a feeling the next update is gonna fix arrows going to the tops of blocks instead of staying where they are. Although, I'm not a fan of the creative-only blocks. There should be a way to get them in survival.
Its the time ive played minecraft thats made me bored of it -_- getting it when it comes out for the xbox though, maybe there's some cool achievements that force us to do cooler things
With Minecraft why do people feel the need to constantly point out that the game "sucks now" or "is boring"? Games just get boring after a while and the updates are there to bring the game closer to completion not entertain you personally.
Yeah, I find the game as boring as fuck now, but I could say the same about any game that I've pumped like 200 hours of gameplay into. I'm sure that if I stop playing for a few years it will become interesting again but for now I've just played it to death.
Hunger definitely makes it less fun. I wish there was a way to only run a certain build of the game yet still be able to switch around. Sometimes it's fun to play in the new survival, but I wish there was a non-hunger survival version.
I still get plenty of entertainment when I play now. As long as there's something I want to build then I'll be satisfied. It's true I don't play it as much as I used to, but that's what happens with any game that's been out for awhile. You get burnt out and take a break for awhile. Then when you come back it feels a bit more fresh and fun again
